NEW PHILADELPHIA -- One day after Jefferson County Teramana Post 33 defeated New Philadelphia on its home field, the Tuscarawas County-based team pulled off a comeback to force a split of a midseason series between teams that will compete for the District 7 title later this summer.
After Post 33 led 5-2 through five and a half innings, New Philadelphia rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-5 victory on Wednesday.
Jefferson County, now 11-8, won the first meeting, 6-0, Tuesday in Richmond.
On Wednesday, each team plated a run in the first inning, before Jefferson County plated four in the top of the third for a 5-1 lead.
New Philadelphia added one in the bottom of the third to make it 5-2, which ended up being the first of seven-unanswered runs for the hosts.
Edison's Hunter Rotchacker went the first three innings on the mound for Post 33, striking out six and walking two.
Big Red's Hakim Edwards fired the next two innings, fanning two.
Indian Creek's Landon Pownall had an RBI at the plate, while Big Red grad and Malone University committ J.T. Thompson had a hit and an RBI. Post 33's other hit in the game came from Edison's Brayden Moses.
Jefferson County begins play in the 34th Beast of the East today, taking on Highland Legion at 1 p.m. at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.
Post 33 takes on the Ohio Bison at 6 p.m., also at Edison.
