Catholic Central edges Weir High in a five set battle

STEUBENVILLE -- The Catholic Central and Weir High volleyball teams battled for five sets inside the Mickey Barber Gymnasium to determine a winner, with the host Crusaders coming out on top, 25-18, 13-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12.

For Catholic Central, Natalie Cherepko finished with 10 kills, a block, 10 digs and 24 points, Haley Cherepko racked up seven kills, 22 assists, six digs and 19 points, Ava Marcino tallied eight kills, 15 assists, two blocks, 14 digs, an ace and 14 points, Anna Arai collected 13 kills, seven blocks, nine digs, two aces and 15 points, Gianna Scugoza had four kills, 14 digs, two aces and 17 points and Lilly Balzano racked up five kills, an assist, two blocks, six digs, an ace and 12 points.

For the Red Riders, Mea Kaufman finished with nine kills, five aces, 21 assists and nine digs, Janai Turner collected four kills, an ace and 36 digs, Bre Parson finished with two kills, three aces and 10 digs, Brayley Lash racked up 12 kills, two aces, four blocks and two digs and Maleea Faulks had 10 kills and four blocks.

Catholic Central is scheduled to travel to Southern Local on Monday, while Weir High hosts Linsly on Monday.

Edison sweeps Indian Creek at home

RICHMOND -- The Edison volleyball team topped battled from behind in the first two sets against Indian Creek on Thursday and picked up a sweep, 27-25, 27-25, 25-18.

Alexandra Ash led the way for the Wildcats with nine kills, four blocks, six points, and three aces, Rebecka Evans had four points, three aces, seven kills, and 17 assists, Olivia Huff had six kills and a block, Hailey Teichman had six points, three aces and 14 assists, Kendra Teichman had 10 points and three aces, Audrey Scott had six points, two kills and eight digs, Morgan Martin had three points and eight digs.

Edison is back in action Saturday morning in a tri on the road against Sandy Valley and Minerva.

Bears fall at East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Oak Glen volleyball team dropped a four set setback to East Liverpool on Thursday, 13-25, 25-27, 25-21, 18-25.

Ashlyn Six had 24 kills and six digs for the Golden Bears, while Brooklyn Six had 12 kills and an ace, Averi Martin had five kills, Jersey Smith had 44 assists and an ace and Hannah Kliner had eight digs.

Oak Glen is scheduled compete in the Phillip Barbour Tournament on the road Saturday.
