Madonna softball edges Toronto, 13-12
WEIRTON -- The Madonna softball team won a high-scoring game over Toronto at home on Starvaggi Field on Wednesday, 13-12.
The Blue Dons rallied from down two runs to win the game and improve to 3-3, while Toronto falls to 2-1.
Carmella Pulice, Chloe Orecchio, Ella Wingett and Rylee Birkhimer each tallied two hits for the Blue Dons,
Kendal Ryan went the distance in the circle, striking out six.
For Toronto, Andrea Reeves had a pair of hits and three RBIs, Isabell Cattrell had two hits and an RBI, Laney Danko had three hits, including a double, Callie Anderson had two hits and three RBIs, JJ Rebich had two singles and two RBIs and Ashton Thomas had two singles and an RBI.
Leah Gibson had two strikeouts.
Madonna is back at home Friday to host Beallsville, while the Red Knights travel to Buckeye Local today.
Oak Glen tops Brooke
NEW MANCHESTER -- Sydney Brown had two hits and drove in three runs, while Sarah Brown, Olivia Munoz and Kayla Wright each drove in two runs as Oak Glen pulled away from Brooke for a 15-7 victory on Wednesday.
Wright and Maddie Murray doubled and Riley Bruce had a triple.
Murray tossed four innings and Lizzie Kell finished things in the fifth.
Brooke had led 4-1 after one and 7-4 through three and a half before an eight-run bottom of the fourth by the Golden Bears.
The Bruins got three RBIs from Landry Bone, while Wyntar McQuinston drove in a pair of runs.
Oak Glen, now 2-5, is slated to host Wheeling Park today, while Brooke (1-4) travels to University on Friday.
Creek beats Beaver again
CALCUTTA -- The Indian Creek softball team got its second win over Beaver Local this week, topping the Beavers 14-4 on the road on Wednesday evening.
McKenna Scott struck out 11 for the win in the circle, while also driving in a run at the plate.
Abby Starkey, Trinity Taylor and Alexis Dawson each had three-hit performances.
Dawson had a double and drove in three runs, while Starkey also plated three runs and had a triple. Becky Blackburn and Bekah Shoemaker also had multi-hit games for Creek.
The Redskins, now 3-0, host Meadowbrook on Friday.
BASEBALL
Brooke out-scores Wheeling Central
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke baseball team had the bats going against Wheeling Central on Wednesday, out-slugging the Maroon Knights for an 18-14 win.
Braelyn Sperringer went 4 for 5 with six RBIs to lead the way, while Anthony Bachinski doubled and had two hits and two RBIs, Carson Lauttamus finished with three hits and Garrett Hornick, Peyton Toepfer and Owen Petrella each drove in two runs for the Bruins.
Topefer tossed the first three innings without allowing a run, while Hunter Mozingo got the win going the final 3 2/3 and fanning four in relief.
Brooke, now 7-2, travels to Martins Ferry today.
Edison falls to the Potters
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Edison baseball team suffered a 9-3 setback to East Liverpool on the road on Wednesday.
Brayden Moses had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Wildcats, while J.D. Henderson had a double and an RBI.
Edison (1-1) hosts Beaver Local on Friday.
