Baseball tourney pairings are set

Sunday the East District baseball tournament draw was held, letting local teams on the Ohio side of the river know when and where they will open tournament play in sectionals.

In West Virginia, baseball sectional action begins this week.

OHIO

DIVISION II

All three area teams in Division II landed in the East 2 bracket, and all three will host a tournament game.

Indian Creek is the highest seeded local team, earning the No. 8 seed. It will host No. 13 John Glenn in a sectional final at Muth Field on May 16.

The winner advances to the district semifinals.

Big Red is the No. 12 seed and will host No. 21 Beaver Local in an opening round contest at the Crimson Complex at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The winner moves on to travel to No. 2 Tri Valley on May 16 in the sectional final round.

Buckeye Local is the No. 15 seed and will host No. 17 Claymont at Bill Mazeroski Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday in an opening round contest.

The winner travels to No. 4 St. Clairsville in the sectional finals on May 16.

DIVISION III

Two local teams are seeded in the top-5 in the Division III East bracket.

Harrison Central is the No. 4 seed and will host No. 12 Ridgewood in an opening round contest May 15 at Bob Mazeroski Field.

The winner will meet the winner of No. 8 Martins Ferry and No. 10 Sandy Valley on May 17 in a sectional final.

Edison is the No. 5 seed and will host No. 14 West Muskingum on May 15.

The winner meets No. 1 Fort Frye on the road in the sectional finals on May 17.

DIVISION IV

Fresh off its OVAC title Catholic Central earned the No. 2 seed and will host No. 13 Monroe Central in a sectional semifinal on May 15 at Vaccaro Field.

Toronto will put its record-setting sectional streak on the line on May 15 hosting No. 15 Bridgeport at the Knights Baseball Complex.

The Red Knights are the No. 3 seed in the district.

The sectional finals are on May 17.

WEST VIRGINIA

In Class A, Madonna will welcome the winner of an opening round game between Hundred and Wheeling Central on Tuesday at Bowman Field.

The Hornets and Maroon Knights meet today.

In Class AA, Weir High and Oak Glen open the Region 1, Section 1 tournament with a matchup tonight in New Manchester.

In Class AAA, Brooke opens its tournament action with trip to Morgantown on Tuesday.

All three classes' sectional tournaments are double elimination.
