ELM GROVE -- After getting a big win over Wheeling Post 1 in the opener, Jefferson County Post 33 stormed back and defeated Armory Baseball, 6-5, in a "Texas Shootout" after erasing a 5-1 deficit.
Aydan Manning's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Post 33 to a 2-0 start in the Beast of the East at the I-470 Complex in Wheeling.
Nolan Blackburn had a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game after Zach Smith had drawn a bases-loaded walk.
Landon Pownall had an RBI single in the third to get Jefferson County on the board after Armory, of the Cannonsburg, Pa. area, had gone up 3-0 early.
Sal Barcalow had four strikeouts in four innings on the mound, Gavin Pownall and Blackburn tossing two innings each in relief.
Jefferson County is scheduled to play Edison at the Edison Unified Athletic Complex at 10:30 a.m. today on Day 2 of the Beast of the East.
