Big Red volleyball comes back and tops Harrison Central

CADIZ -- After dropping the opening set to the host Huskies, the Big Red volleyball team stormed back to win the next three-straight to complete a 3-1, season opening victory at Harrison Central on Saturday.

After the Huskies took the first set, 25-22, Big Red won sets 2-4 by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-12.

For Steubenville, Analesa Perdue tallied seven kills and six blocks, Kaitlyn Smith had 29 assists, six points, three digs and an ace, Sarah Allen connected for 13 kills, a block, five digs and five points, Emma Lyons had nine kills and a block, Te'Jah Montgomery had three kills, five aces, four digs and 14 points, Sena Smith recorded four kills, a block, two dogs, three aces and 10 points, Julia Arlesic tallied and ace and a dig and Kayla Biasi racked up eight points, two digs and an ace.

For the Huskies, Danica Rensi had 10 kills, 20 digs and seven points, Lauren Doane had 10 kills, Olivia Tonkovich tallied 12 assists and Kennedy Dunlap tallied seven points.

Riders open with a draw

WEIRTON -- The Weir and Winfield girls' soccer teams played to a scoreless draw Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

Rayna Hoover made seven saves in goal for the Red Riders (0-0-1), while Kaitlyn Sayre made six saves for the Generals (1-0-2).

Weir is scheduled to play at 6 p.m. today at Brooke (1-0).
