WINTERSVILLE -- The Brooke football team got off to a bit of a slow start Thursday, but found its groove and pulled away from Indian Creek for a 28-7 victory at Kettlewell Stadium.
The Redskins (1-2) scored first and held Brooke (2-0) off the board in the opening quarter, but the Bruins scored twice in the second quarter to take the lead at the half and added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Indian Creek's Zion McGee capped Creek's first drive of the game with a 4-yard scoring run for a 7-0 Redskin lead midway through the first quarter.
After a couple of early three-and-outs, however, the Bruins got their offense going as Braelyn Sperringer capped a long march with a 1-yard QB sneak into the endzone to tie the game early in the second quarter.
Late in the quarter, Sperringer fired a screen pass to Gavin Moore, who broke free down the sideline and went 25-yards to give Brooke a 14-7 lead.
Creek threatened before the half, but turned the ball over on downs in the red zone with :13 left.
Neither team scored in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Brooke took advantage of a short field and extended the lead when Moore broke free for a 19-yard touchdown run.
Then, after a Tristen Stevens interception, Jace Campinelli capped the scoring on a 29-yard catch-and-run on a toss from Sperringer.
Sperringer finished the night 15 of 22 for 177 yards and two passing touchdowns and another 22 yards and a score with his feet.
Moore finished with 35 yards on the ground and 65 on five receptions, with a touchdown each way.
Gus Gilbert also hauled in five Sperringer passes for 65 yards.
For the Redskins, Zion McGee finished with 72 yards on 25 carries and the first quarter TD.
Zac Byard passed for 48 yards and ran for another 34.
Gavin Pownall added 53 yards on just nine carries for Creek.
