Morgantown tops OVAC Class 5A golf tournament

Brooke’s Hornick, Big Red’s Elliott make all-conference team

WHEELING -- The Morgantown Mohigans came away with the gold Thursday at the Jones Course at the Spiedel Golf Club, topping an eight-team field with a team score of 333.

Solas Chinn Kreiner led Morgantown with a 78, followed by Gabriel Watson with an 83, Andrew Sheets with an 85, Braxton Martucci with an 87 and Ayden Shepard with an 89.

It was the third-place University Hawks who can claim the medalist for the day, with Landon Spiker shooting an impressive 76 on the day.

Dover (340) finished second behind Morgantown, followed by the Hawks (342), Parkersburg South (345), Wheeling Park (354), Brooke (356), Steubenville (362), Marietta (367), Warren (371) and John Marshall (398).

Landing on the OVAC All-Conference team for Class 5A were Spiker, Kreiner, Wheeling Park's Campbell Keogler (79), Brooke's Garrett Hornick (82), Steubenville's Chris Elliott (83), Morgantown's Gabriel Watson (83), Parkersburg South's Parker Vannoy (83) and University's Daniel Grabo (83).

Also contributing to the team score for Big Red were Evan Liggett with a score of 90, Bubby Reese with a 92, Nick Nurczyk with a 97 and Waylon Hayes with a 97.

For Brooke, Owen Petrella shot an 87, Nick Cipoletti fired a 93, Mason Rees turned in a 94 and Henry Anderson fired a 95.
