Huskies top Maysville in four sets in tournament opener

CADIZ -- The Harrison Central volleyball team opened tournament play on Monday with a victory to move on in East District Division II tournament action.

The Huskies, the No. 16 seed, topped visiting No. 17 seed Zanesville Maysville in four sets in the sectional semifinals.

The Huskies won three-straight sets after dropping the first to win the match by scores of 19-25, 25-17, 25-12, 25-20.

Olivia Tonkovich had 28 points and 14 assists for Harrison Central, while Kennedy Dunlap had eight kills, Nessa Culver had 12 blocks and Lauren Doane finished with a block.

The Huskies advance to face No. 2 seed Indian Valley in the four-team sectional held at Indian Valley on Wednesday.

No. 11 Big Red meets No. 6 Dover in the other co-final with the winners meeting in the district semifinals the following week.

Madonna wins a tri

HUNDRED -- The Madonna volleyball team was victorious in both games of a tri-match on Monday, topping Hundred 2-0 and South Harrison 2-1.

In the win over South Harrison, Madonna's Riley Birkhimer had five kills, four aces, a block and a dig, Madi Owens tallied six kills, four aces, two assists and a dig, Jules Thomshak recorded three kills and two blocks, Mia Pietranton recorded nine assists, two digs, two aces and a kill, Myah Ferguson recorded seven digs, and Chloe Orrechio recorded four assists, two digs, five aces and a kill.

TOURNAMENT

ZANESVILLE -- The Edison girls soccer team's season came to a close with a 10-0 loss at Bishop Rosecrans in Division III, Northeast District sectional action on Monday night.

The Wildcats were the No. 7 seed, while Rosecrans, the No. 2 seed, moves on to face No. 3 Berlin Hiland in the sectional final on Wednesday.
