Weir wins city championship

WEIRTON -- The Weir High volleyball team swept its way to a city championship victory over rival Madonna on Tuesday night at home while it was also celebrating senior night.
The Red Riders won the match by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-9.
Mea Kaufman tallied six aces, four kills, 19 assists and 15 digs, Janai Turner recorded a kill, an asssit and 26 digs, Maleea Faulks had five kills and two digs, Brayley Lash recorded an ace, seven kills, an assist and a block, Marissa Mascio tallied seven aces, five kills and eight digs and Lillie Caranda recorded two kills.
The Red Riders recognized Kaufman and Caranda, their two seniors, before to the match.
The victory also moved the Red Riders above the .500 mark at 14-13-1 on the season.
The Weir High jayvee team also won, 2-0.
The Red Riders compete in the Region 1, Section 1 tournament on Saturday morning in Fairmont. Madonna hosts Oak Glen on Thursday night.
