Leyton Toepfer hits 1,000 as Brooke tops Oak Glen
WELLSBURG -- Leyton Topefer scored 21 points to lead Brooke to a win over Oak Glen on Thursday night and in the process surpassed the 1,000-career point mark.
The Bruins were victorious, 70-59, in a game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
He added nine assists to go with the milestone while Peyton Toepfer added 17 points, Grant Milam tallied 12 points and eight rebounds and Nate Kimball recorded 10 points and nine boards.
The game was knotted 18-18 after one before Brooke led 34-30 at the break.
The Bruins scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to pull away.
For Oak Glen, AJ Ramgeet had a game-high 25 points, while Tyler Evans added 13 points.
Brooke's game at Big Red scheduled for tonight has been moved to Wednesday due to the weather. The Bruins play at Beaver Local on Tuesday, while Oak Glen plays at Catholic Central on Saturday.
Edison girls top Beaver
CALCUTTA -- The Edison girls basketball team got a big win Thursday night at Beaver Local, 62-56.
Leading the Wildcats was Sophia Henderson with 18 points, while Rebecka Evans had 16 and Kylee Stull with 13.
Weir Bowlers win
WEIRTON -- Thursday afternoon the Weir Red Rider bowling team rolled past the Brooke Bruins 2163 to 1780 on senior day in front of a packed house at Holiday Lanes.
Senior co-captains Shane Arnold (236 high game 441 series) and Jackson Parsons (224 high game and 437 series) led the way for the Riders.
For Brooke, Darian Hilton had the high game of 185 with Dakota McMillan and Seth Schroeder both rolling 158 games. High series was McMillan at 313 followed by Schroeder's 307.
The Riders next will meet Bridgeport at home on Tuesday.
