STEUBENVILLE -- Local swimmers took to the pool inside the Big Red Natatorium Saurday for the Division II East District sectional meet vying for spots in the district meet.
The top three individuals in each event earned automatic bids for 12 across the district and the next 20 fastest times from the four sections got at-large bids. The top two relays in each event automatically advanced, as well as the next 16 times from the four sectional meets.
The at large qualifiers were revealed on Sunday. The district meet takes place in Columbus.
Big Red's Kinsey Tucker is headed to Columbus in the girls 200 IM, placing on the podium in third in 2:34.80, and the 100 free, also placing third in 1:00.89.
Edison's Gage Cable earned an automatic bid with a second place finish in the boys 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:07.32 and was part of the Wildcats boys 200 medley relay unit that earned an automatic bid with a second place finish. Joining him in turning in a 1:59.79 were Nolan Buchanon, Micah Larkins and Issac Pudder.
A host of local relay teams will move on with at-large bids.
The Big Red girls 200 medley relay unit of Carmen Nocera, Rensi Gresko, Reagan Murison and Kinsey Tucker advanced in 2:14.57; Indian Creek's girls 200 medley relay unit of Aaliyah Duke, Lucianna Pietro, Emma Doerr and Reese Scott were right behind in 2:17.70 to advance; Indian Creek's girls 200 free relay team of Scott, Hailee Hixenbaugh, Brooklyn Evans and Gabby Boyuk advanced with a 1:56.18; the Big Red girls 200 free relay team of Bella Prolago, Gresko, Nocera and Tucker's time of 1:57.38; Indian Creek's boys 200 relay unit of Caleb Zifzal, Brody Kurner, Xavier Vines and Hunter Rusnak in 1:45.64; Indian Creek's girls 400 free unit of Scott, Evans, Hixenbaugh and moved on with a 4:22.09; the Big Red's girls 400 free relay team Noera, Murison, Gresko and Ashley Toothman moved on with a 4:29.13; the Indian Creek boys 400 free relay team of Zifzal, Kurner, Hines and Rusnak's 4:01.62 was enough to advance; and the Edison boys 400 free relay team of Buchanon, Luke Linscott, Pudder and Cable advanced with a 4:01.72.
