BRIDGEPORT -- The Madonna girls basketball team used a big third quarter to pull out a victory on the road Thursday in a low-scoring OVAC consolation game at Bridgeport.
The Blue Dons, who have now registered their highest win total in three seasons, prevailed 34-21 for their third victory of the season over the Bulldogs.
After leading 12-11 at halftime, Madonna out-scored the hosts 15-4 in the third quarter to pull away on the way to the victory.
Addy Welsh netted 15 points, including eight in the pivotal third quarter, to lead the Dons, while Christany Bartley netted 11, eight of which came in the second half.
Madonna closes the regular season visiting Weir High in the city championship game on Monday.
Huskies top Trail
LORE CITY -- The Harrison Central girls basketball team moved one step closer to a double-digit win season with a narrow 42-40 victory over Buckeye Trail Thursday in OVAC consolation action.
The Huskies, now 9-11, have won nine of their last 11 games.
Leading the way for Harrison Central was Lauren Doane with 12 points, while Kennedy Dunlap had nine.
Angi Ferri also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for the Huskies.
The Huskies host Catholic Central on Monday.
