Bruins win high-scoring game with Weir

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke baseball team came out on top in a high-scoring game with rival Weir High on Tuesday.

After a back-and-forth start, the Bruins scored 14-straight runs to take an 18-8 win over their rivals at home.

Brooke scored the first two runs in the bottom of the first, but Weir plated three in the top of the second to take the lead.

Brooke's offense then took over, plating nine runs in the bottom half to re-take the lead and the Bruins led 16-3 through four.

Weir rallied in the top of the fifth to temporarily stave off the 10-run rule by plating five runs, but Brooke added two in the bottom half to bring the game to an early end.

Hunter Mozingo had a pair of doubles and three hits on the day to go with four RBIs to lead Brooke, while Carson Lauttamus tallied three hits and a pair of RBIs.

Raymond DeFranco and Anthony Bachinski each tallied a pair of hits.

Peyton Toepfer was the winning pitcher, striking out two in the first three innings.

For Weir High, Lucas McAllister, who took the loss on the mound, had two RBIs, while Damir Mowder had a pair of hits for the Red Riders.
