Creek’s Eft, Scott get top East District honors
Several local players are recognized on OPSWA All-East District awards lists

The All-East District teams, players and coaches of the year were announced on Tuesday and many locals were included among those recognized.
The annual awards were voted on by members of the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association.
Two locals garnered the top honor in their division, both from Indian Creek's girls basketball team. Redskins head coach Steve Eft was voted the Co-Coach of the Year in Division II, while junior standout McKenna Scott was named Co-Player of the Year in the Division.
Eft guided the Redskins to a 19-3 regular season and 21-4 mark overall. Scott averaged 16.6 points per game and more than six assists, better than five steals and nearly three rebounds per game.
GIRLS
DIVISION II
Joining Eft and Scott as those honored in Division II were some more from Creek and several from Big Red
On the first team, Big Red's Nylah McShan joined Scott after averaging 17.9 points and nine rebounds as a sophomore. Also on the first team was Creek senior Kylie Anderson, who averaged 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.
Big Red's Madelyn Criss along with Harrison Central's Angi Ferri and Maddie Sedgmer were named to the second team, while Steubenville senior Aniyah Warner was named to the third team.
Big Red's Bailee Beall and Sabria Jones, Harrison Central's Danica Rensi and Creek's Kaydence Walker were special mentions, while the Huskies Lauren Doane and Creek's Camryn Ketron and Gabby Taylor were honorable mentions.
DIVISION III
Buckeye Local senior Brynn McKeever led the locals in Division III, being named to the first team after averaging 15.9 points and 9.1 rebounds in a winning season for the Panthers.
Her Buckeye Local teammate Pam Kandrach and Edison's Sophia Henderson were selected for the second team, while the Wildcats Rebecka Evans was a third team selection.
Edison's Pressley Meadows and Abigail Boka were honorable mentions.
DIVISION IV
In Division IV, two locals were named to the first team in Catholic Central's Anna Arai and Toronto's Ashton Thomas. Arai, a senior, averaged a double-double with 14.6 points per game and 12.4 rebounds. Thomas, also a senior, also averaged a double-double with 15.8 points and 14 rebounds.
Also recognized were Central's Ella Maragos on the second team, Toronto's Michelle Anderson on the third team and Central's Jackie O'Karma as an honorable mention.
BOYS
DIVISION II
Santino Haney, Big Red's standout freshmen, was the highest voted local boys player in Division II garnering first team recognition with an average of 19.4 points and better than four rebounds and assists in his first varsity season.
On the second team were his teammate Keith Lewis and Buckeye Local's Gavyn Romanyak. Indian Creek's Caleb Bodo was selected for the third team along with Big Red's Tre Wiggins.
Creek's Byson Kamarec and Drake Freshwater were special mentions, while the Panthers' Ryder Kindberg-Colabelli was an honorable mention.
DIVISION III
Harrison Central senior Hayden Cassidy was named to the first team after averaging more than 21 points per game for the Huskies.
Edison's JD Henderson was a second team selection, while the Huskies' Mykel Quito and Wildcats' Kyle Long were honorable mentions.
DIVISION IV
Toronto's Kam Baker (15.7 points per game) and Catholic Central's Benji Rook (17.5 points per game) were first team selections in Division IV after helping each of their teams to strong seasons.
The Red Knights' Cayden Benton and Crusaders' Tommy Pergi were second team selections, while Toronto's Nolan Dickinson and Central's Camden Bradley were third team picks.
The Crusaders' Daniel Bolster and Evan Long were honorable mentions.
The OPSWA All-Ohio teams will be released March 25-28.
