STEUBENVILLE -- The Big Red softball team started its season with a dramatic victory.
Emily Tuttle singled in the bottom of the seventh inning and Sagan Smarrella scored on a subsquent error to lift Big Red to a walk-off 3-2 victory over visiting Linsly at the Crimson Complex.
The late heroics came after the Cadets had tied the game in the top of the seventh.
Smarrella's RBI groundout in the fifth gave Big Red a 2-1 lead. Adison Meyer's RBI single in the second inning tied the game after Linsly had taken the first lead.
Tuttle finished with a pair of hits, as did Bailee Beall (double and single) and Emma Lyons (two singles), while Sadie Edwards doubled.
Katie Renforth went the first five innings with four strikeouts, while Sena Smith got the win in relief with four strikeouts in two innings.
Madonna gets road win
BEALLSVILLE -- The Madonna softball team topped Beallsville 6-3 on Monday on the road for their fifth win in seven outings.
Chloe Orecchio singled twice, while Carmella Pulice doubled and singled and Ella Wingett also had a double.
Kendal Ryan had seven strikeouts in the circle to earn the win.
Creek falls in opener
WINTERSVILLE -- The Indian Creek softball team dropped its opener, 4-1, to Meadowbrook on Monday.
Trinity Taylor had a pair of hits, while Riley Sadler drove in Creek's lone run.
Taylor had six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings in the cirlce.
Oak Glen tops East Liverpool
NEW MANCHESTER -- The Oak Glen softball team defeated visiting rival East Liverpool on Monday, 15-0, in four innings.
Mattie Carney led the Golden Bears with a huge day at the plate, hitting a home run, a double and finishing with four RBIs. Maddie Murray, Danica Holden, Emma Everett and Marleah Lough each drove in a pair of runs.
Murray got the win in the circle with six strikeouts for the Bears (5-1).
BASEBALL
Toronto tops Oak Glen
TORONTO -- Dom Bouscher tossed a no-hitter and the Toronto baseball team won big for the second time in as many outings by topping Oak Glen 10-0 on Monday.
Bouscher struck out 10 and walked three in shutting down the Golden Bears.
Russ Dickinson had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, as did Blake Close, while Nate Brownfield also plated a run.
Preston Cole had five strikeouts in five innings for Oak Glen.
Madonna loses first
WHEELING -- The Madonna baseball team suffered its first setback of the season Monday, 4-3, on the road at Linsly.
Grant Wilharm had a double and a single and plated two runs, while Matt Geer had an RBI double and Koleton Grishkevich also doubled.
Madonna had led 3-1 before a three-run fourth by the Cadets.
The Dons are now 6-1.
