Big Red bounces back with a big win?

GNADENHUTTEN -- Afer giving up an early run, the Big Red baseball team plated the last six runs in the final two innings to earn a bounce-back 6-1 win on the road at Indian Valley on Tuesday night.

A Cal Beadling fly ball in the sixth tied the game, then an Aydan Manning RBI single gave Big Red its first lead and a Maddox Gulan RBI single made it 3-1 Steubenville.

In the top of the seventh, Beadling scored on a wild pitch, Nolan Blackburn singled in another run and Gulan was hit by a pitch to plate another run adding to the Big Red lead. Matt Fabbro, who went the final five innings to earn the win in relief, struck out two in keeping the Braves off the board. Hayden Hicks tossed the first two innings.

Big Red returns to the Crimson Complex today to host Harrison Central.

Toronto bounces back

TORONTO -- The Toronto base all team wasted little time in putting its second loss of the season behind it, quickly getting back in the win column with a 9-2 victory over visiting Monroe Central on Tuesday night at the Knights Basebll Complex.

Drake Bouscher had a double, single and two RBIs, Russ Dickinson, Chase Heckathorn and Aiden Filby each had a single and an RBI and Nolan Dickinson drove in two runs with a base knock.

On the mound, Filby went the distance, striking out two.

The Red Knights are now 13-2.

Madonna rally falls short

WEIRTON -- The Madonna baseball team nearly rallied back from an early four-run hole, but came up a run shy and fell to visiting Wheeling Central, 4-3, Tuesday at Bowman Field.

After the Maroon Knights plated a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to jump ahead 4-0, Madonna plated two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit in half when Grant Wilharm hit a two-run double.

The Dons, though, left the bases loaded and stranded two more in the fourth.

Matt Geer put Madonna within a run leading off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer, but an equalizing run eluded the Dons.

Jacob Lazear and Geer each fanned four in splitting time on the mound.

CCHS scores a bunch again

STEUBENVILLE -- The Catholic Central baseball team had another big day with the bats, topping visiting Oak Glen 16-3 at Vaccaro Field on Tuesday after scoring 25 a night earlier.

Brayden Rauch had two doubles, two singles and four RBIs, Peyton Rauch tripled, had three singles to go 4 for 4 and also plated three runs, Alex Solema knocked in a pair of runs, as did Eli Fayak.

On the mound, Kody Carver struck out six in four innings and Solema fanned the side in the fifth.

Preston Cole had an RBI double for Oak Glen, Maddox McKay also driving in a run.

Edison falls at Ferry

MARTINS FERRY -- The Edison baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision on the road at Martins Ferry on Tuesday.

Kyle Long had the lone RBI for the Wildcats.

JCC tops Leetonia

LEETONIA -- The Jefferson County Christian baseball team topped Leetonia, 9-3, on the road on Tuesday.

Lee Gump tossed five scoreless innings for the Royals, striking out six, and was 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. Carson Duval had three hits and Rob Henderson had two hits and three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Big Red walks-it-off

STEUBENVILLE -- Emma Lyons' two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Big Red softball team to a walk-off 2-1 win over visiting Wheeling Park on Tuesday night.

The game had been tied since the fifth when Park evened the score after Gia Bowman's RBI groundout in the bottom of the first had put Big Red on top early.

Katie Renforth went the first five innings in the circle, fanning two, and Sena Smith earned the win in relief with three strikeouts in the final two innings as the duo combined for a two-hitter.

Big Red faces Morgantown today in the OVAC Class 5A semis at the I-470 Complex.

Brooke rallies past HC

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke softball team won for the second time in as many nights, storming to a 7-1 win over Harrison Central on Tuesday.

After the Huskies struck first in the first, the Bruins scored the final seven runs -- including six in the final two innings.

Hailey Moore was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Alexa Forsha homered, had two hits and three RBIs and Maddie Brown plated a pair of runs with a double.

Foresha went the distance in the circle with nine strikeouts.

For the Huskies, Mikayla Pelegreen had two hits and struck out six in the circle.

Panthers fall at UL

BELMONT -- The Buckeye Local softball team suffered a tough, walk-off loss, 5-4 at Union Local on Tuesday.

Sam Ankrom had two hits and Hailey Kovalski plated two runs.

Madonna tops JCC

WEIRTON -- The Madonna softball team scored 15 first inning runs on the way to an 18-2 win over Jefferson County Christian on Tuesday.

Madi Owens had a triple and three RBIs, Grace Parker also had two hits and drove in three runs and Rosa Cody doubled and plated a pair.
