Buckeye Local softball splits a DH with Monroe Central

CONNORVILLE -- The Buckeye Local softball team split a doubleheader at home with visiting Monroe Central on Thursday.

The visiting Seminoles took the opener, 10-4, but the Panthers bounced back in the nightcap with a 7-2 victory.

In the opener, Buckeye Local got a double, single and an RBI from Danika Bauknecht, a double and single from Karlie Lander and two hits and an RBI from Tatum Walker.

Hailey Kovalski had two strikeouts in the circle.

In the second game, the Panthers fell behind 2-0 early but rallied ahead 3-2 with a run each in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth, then exploded for four in the sixth to pull away for good.

Bauknecht again had a single and a double, Lexi Neilly had two hits and an RBI, Addy Jones had a pair of hits and five different Panthers drove in a run in the win.

Lander went the distance with three punchouts for the win in the circle.

Wildcats walk-it-off

RICHMOND -- Sophia Henderson blasted a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Edison softball team to a dramatic 6-3 extra inning victory over visiting Martins Ferry on Thursday.

The Wildcats forced the eighth with a run in the bottom of the seventh before winning it.

Abigail Boka had a double and two RBIs, Alli Shrieve had a pair of hits and Grace Browning tripled.

In the circle, Shrieve fanned six in 6 1/3 innings, while Pressly Meadows got the win in relief going 1 2/3.

The Wildcats had jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first before the Purple Riders tied it up in the third.

Big Red edges University

MORGANTOWN -- The Big Red softball team went on the road to Morgantown and topped University, 3-2, in a close game to quickly put its OVAC semifinal loss in the rear view.

Sagan Smarrella's RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning broke a 2-2 stalemate after both teams plated a pair in the first inning.

Sena Smith had a pair of hits for Big Red, including a triple, while Sadie Edwards doubled in a run and Smarrella finished with two RBIs.

Katie Renforth went the first four innings, fanning two in the circle before Smith closed things out with six strikeouts in the final three innings.

Weir falls at home

WEIRTON -- The Weir High softball team suffered an 11-0 setback to John Marshall on Thursday.

JM's Shelby Crow fired a five-inning no-hitter.

Eliza Utt had three strikeouts for the Red Riders.

Huskies top Oak Glen

NEW MANCHESTER -- The Harrison Central softball team plated two runs in the top of the fifth to earn a 2-0 win on the road at Oak Glen on Thursday.

MiKayla Pelegreen had two hits for the Huskies, while Isabell Yeager had a triple and Aubrey Wood drove in a run.

Emma Skinner fanned two in going the distance in the circle.

Danica Holden had a five strikeout relief appearance for the Bears, while Addie Smith doubled and singled for a multi-hit day.

BASEBALL

Creek blanks Bellaire

MINGO JUNCTION -- The Indian Creek baseball tem rolled to an 11-0 victory over visiting Bellaire on Thursday.

Creek, now 13-3, plated five runs in the bottom of the first and did not look back.

Ty Householder had two doubles, Hunter Rusnak had two hits and both Sal Barcalow and Gavin Pownall each had two hits and two RBIs for the Redskins.

Tre Feist-Winland was the winning pitcher, sitting down three in four innings.

CCHS tops Beallsville

STEUBENVILLE -- The Catholic Central baseball team got two runs in the first inning and it proved to be enough to earn a 3-1 win over visiting Beallsville on Thursday at Vaccaro Field.

Peyton Rauch had a pair of hits for the Crusaders, while Alex Solema doubled and Brayden Rauch and Mason Meeks had an RBI each.

Daniel Free fanned five in five innings for the win on the mound, while Solema came on for the final two to earn the save.
