RICHMOND -- The Big Red baseball team once again showed its ability to put a tough loss behind it in a hurry.

Steubenville went on the road to Edison on Wednesday evening, jumped ahead early and did not look back on the way to a 5-1 victory.

Big Red, now 16-5, scored first with an Aydan Manning RBI single in the top of the first, then, in the second, Landon Crosier hit an RBI triple and Cal Beadling doubled in another run in the next at bat to make it 3-0.

Kail Simmons made it 4-0 with an RBI groundout in the third, then, in the top of the fifth, Hayden Hicks blasted a solo homer to make it 5-0.

Nolan Haught's RBI single in the fifth got Edison (11-10) on the board, but that was it for the Wildcats' offense.

Beadling added another double and a single for a three-hit day, while Hicks, Manning and Brody Saccoccia had two hits.

JD Henderson had a pair of hits for Edison and Evan Kimmerle doubled.

Manning fired a complete game for Big Red, striking out six.

Liam Watson took the loss for the Wildcats, fanning two in six innings.

Big Red hosts Catholic Central today, while Edison takes on Indian Creek.

Central tops Beallsville

BEALLSVILLE -- The Catholic Central baseball team out-slugged Beallsville on Wednesday on the road, 13-7.

The Crusaders' Peyton Rauch had a double and a single and two RBIs, while Eli Fayak had a double, single and plated one run, Zach Bryan had two hits and two RBIs, Michael DiCarlo drove in two runs and Hayden Cihon brought home four runners.

Joseph Vranish went five innings with five strikeouts for the win on the mound.

Creek downs the Rocks

MINGO JUNCTION -- After a couple of scoreless innings the Indian Creek baseball team broke things open in the bottom of the third and pulled away for a 10-0, five inning win over Barnesville on Wednesday.

Sal Barcalow and Hunter Rusnak each had two hits and two RBIs for the Redskins, while Landon Pownall also drove in two runs and Nick Maurer doubled.

Silus Hyde turned in a strong outing on the mound, fanning 10 batters without a walk in allowing just one hit.

TOURNAMENT

Weir falls at East Fairmont

FAIRMONT -- The Weir baseball team fell in the opening round of the Class AA sectional tournament on Wednesday at East Fairmont, 11-1.

The Red Riders got a pair of hits and an RBI from Trey Cook.

The Red Riders host Oak Glen tonight in an elimination game.
