WINTERSVILLE -- The Indian Creek girls' soccer team was without its two top scorers going into its match against Wheeling Central.
Their loss was seen on the pitch as the Maroon Knights scored early and often en route to a 14-0 victory Monday night inside Kettlewell Stadium.
"It is tough when you lose 80 percent of your offense," Indian Creek (1-5) head coach Danny Lawrence said. "That's the name of the game.
"There's not too much to say. We lacked intensity in the first half. When we started playing, it was too late. We played better in the second half."
Wheeling Central netted nine goals in the first half before adding five more in the second.
"It was a good night," Wheeling Central (6-1-1) head coach Ashley Winters said. "It was a very good night."
Offensively for the Maroon Knights, Rylee Wright tallied a hat trick, while Mariah Ratcliffe, Loni Kusic, Elizabeth Steele, Addie Payton, Monti Smith, Isabella Brown, Addi Hanson, Kaila Blatt, Berklee Heller and Aylin Yoko all collected a goal.
Bella Fitzsimmons finished with one save in goal for the visitors.
"We did get contributions from a lot of different kids," Winters said. "We got good contributions from everyone. Our started stayed in for a bit in the first half, and then we brought our bench in. We mixed them up. All 23 girls contributed. The whole team played well."
Tatum Campbell tallied 19 saves in goal for the hosts, while Ava Paterra made one.
"I knew what they were going to do," Lawrence said. "There's not much to say when you lose like that.
"They knew what they had to do, and they did it. We didn't."
Wheeling Central is scheduled to play Catholic Central at 5 p.m. Wednesday on the road at the Tony Recinella Soccer Field.
Indian Creek is slated to play St. Clairsville in a rescheduled game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home.
