Central girls advance

STEUBENVILLE -- The Catholic Central girls soccer team is moving on.

The Crusaders topped visiting Coshocton, 6-1, Monday afternoon in their tournament opener at the Tony Rencinella Soccer Field.

Central is the No. 4 seed in the Division V, East District tournament bracket and advances to take on top-seeded Bishop Rosecrans next Monday in the district semifinals.

Coshocton was the fifth seed.

The Crusaders are now 11-5-2 on the season. Rosecrans (14-3-1) topped No. 8 seed Ridgewood, 6-1, in their sectional contest on Monday.

Edison's season ends

ZANESVILLE -- The Edison volleyball team's season came to a close with a three set loss at West Muskingum on Monday in Division V, East District opening round match.

Sophia Henderson led Edison with 10 digs, five kills, eight points and 10 assists, Leighanne Anderson recorded eight digs and three kills and Mimi Ault had five assists and three kills..

The match was the final one for four Wildcat seniors -- Ali Shrieve, Mariah Hunter, Becca Bell and Myah Howell.

Brooke win OVAC consolation game

PARKERSBURG -- The Bruins prevailed over the Patriots in a OVAC consolation game for fifth place on Monday at the Erickson All Sports Facility.

Chase Hile starred for Brooke in the road victory, scoring three goals and tallying an assist.

Evan Urso also finished with one goal and one assist. Brayden Farrell put through a goal for the Bruins. Chance Brozstek snagged 16 saves in the win.

Brooke stands at 6-10-3 after Monday.
