Blue Dons win a thriller

WEIRTON -- The Madonna boys basketball team got the first win of the Matt Arlia era in thrilling fashion Monday night, defeating Valley 77-76 in a thriller.

The Dons out-scored the Lumberjacks 22-16 in the fourth quarter after going to the final eight minutes trailing, rallying to victory.

Koleton Grishkevich had a monster night for the Dons, hitting six 3-pointers on the way to finishing with 32 points. He had nine in the decisive fourth quarter.

Reed Wilharm also had nine points in the fourth and finished with 21 points overall, hitting three triples, while Andre Crossland netted 12 points.

Creek gets first win

WINTERSVILLE -- The Indian Creek boys basketball team got off to a good start and did enough down the stretch to hang on for a 56-46 victory over visiting Buckeye Local on Monday for their first win of the season.

The Redskins led 37-25 at halftime.

Creek was led by 17 points each from Nickey Eddy and Mason Lester, while Kyle Shultz netted 11 points.

For the Panthers, Isaac Hess tallied 16 points and Mason Griffin finished with 10.

Brooke falls to North Marion

WELLSBURG -- Visiting North Marion got off to an early lead and did not look back in topping Brooke 55-37 Monday evening.

Andrew Murdock led the Bruins with 15 points, while Jared McKinnon netted 10.

Oak Glen falls to Beaver

NEW MANCHESTER -- The Oak Glen boys basketball team dropped a 71-35 decision to visiting Beaver Local on Monday night.

Leading the Golden Bears were Gavin Geisse and Elijah Knisely each with eight points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Henderson leads Edison

TORONTO -- The Edison girls basketball team, led by 31 points from Sophia Henderson, topped Toronto on the road 52-35 on Monday night for a season sweep of their neighboring district rivals.

Mimi Ault and Abby Boka each netted six points for the now 7-2 Wildcats.

For the Red Knights, Tatum Derrington led the way with 12 points.

Madonna wins at home

WEIRTON -- Across the street from the boys big win, the Madonna girls basketball team got one of its own.

The Blue Dons also defeated Valley, 41-29.

Christany Bartley netted a game-high 17 points for Madonna, while Madi Owens added 11 points.

Huskies top Buckeye

CONORVILLE -- The Harrison Central girls basketball team is going into the Christmas break on a win streak.

The now 7-3 Huskies went on the road to Buckeye Local and earned their third-straight win, topping the rival Panthers 51-14.

Maddie Sedgmer netted a game-high 20 points and Lauren Doane followed with 12.
