Edison girls roll past St. Clairsville on senior night

RICHMOND -- The Edison girls basketball team jumped out to a big early lead and did not look back in a 49-15 senior night victory over visiting St. Clairsville on Monday night.

The Wildcats improve to 14-4 with the win and are poised to make the OVAC Class 4A tournament field ahead of today's cutoff.

Edison jumped out to an 18-2 lead after the first quarter and led 27-5 at halftime, pulling away further in the second half.

Sophia Henderson led the way with a game-high 15 points, while Abigail Boka followed with eight and Kylie Stull netted seven points.

Stull and Mariah Hunter, Edison's two seniors, were recognized prior to the game.

The Wildcats travel to Beaver Local on Wednesday.

Big Red gets big win

CARROLLTON -- The Big Red girls basketball team went on the road Monday and defeated Carrollton in a battle of teams with double digit win totals.

Steubenville defeated the host Warriors, 44-40, in a rematch of last year's district championship game to improve its record to 12-5. Carrollton falls to 13-4.

Big Red sat second in the OVAC Class 5A standings entering the week ahead of today's cutoff.

Oak Glen tops the Potters

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Oak Glen girls basketball team topped rival East Liverpool 52-28 on the road Monday night.

The victory improves the Golden Bears to 9-5 with four wins in their last five games.

It was also a key win for the Golden Bears in the race for the OVAC tournament field as they entered the week fourth in Class 4A ahead of today's cutoff.

SWIMMING

Creek girls win two

CALCUTTA -- The Indian Creek girls swimming team picked up a pair of dual wins over East Liverpool and Beaver Local Monday night in a tri-meet.

Aaliyah Duke topped the 50 free and 100 free and Gabby Boyuk won the 500 free and 100 back while Creek's 400 free relay unit also finished first to give the Redskins individual event winners.

Brooke, John Marshall split

Boys

The Bruins defeated the Monarchs 1,951 to 1,279 as Darian Hilton rolled a 212 game and a 375 series. Dawson Paugh added a 203 and 339. Wyatt Taylor had games of 202 and 182 for John Marshall. He finished with a 384 series.

Girls

The Monarchs rolled to a 1,626 to 1,377 victory as Ash Barlip had a 194 game and 331 series. Shelby Crow had a 152 game and 287 series. Kaylee Tuttle rolled a 312 series with games of 160 and 152.
