Boys basketball district tourney pairings set in Ohio
STEUBENVILLE — Selection Sunday has come and gone for the local Ohio boys’ basketball teams as the seven local teams learned their postseason fates.
This is the first year there are seven divisions for basketball.
Big Red is the No. 1 seed in Division III, and Big Red will take on No. 3 seed New Philadelphia in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at home inside the Crimson Center. Tri-Valley – the No. 2 seed – will host the other district semifinal that night against either No. 4 seed Dover or No. 5 seed Zanesville. The game between the Crimson Tornadoes and the Blue Devils is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 18 out at Dover.
The district final is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at a site to be announced.
Indian Creek drew the No. 10 seed in the Division IV Eastern District Tournament, and the Redskins will play No. 3 seed Indian Valley in a sectional co-final at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 on the road. The winner of that game will take on No. 4 seed Cambridge Feb. 21 at a site to be announced.
The district semifinal will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at a site to be announced, while the district final will be played at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at a site to be announced.
Harrison Central drew the No. 9 seed in the Division V tournament, and the Huskies will play No. 7 seed Bellaire in a sectional co-final at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 on the road. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the game between No. 3 seed Garaway and No. 13 seed Meadowbrook in the district semifinal at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at a location to be announced. The game between the Pirates and the Colts will be played at Garaway.
Also in Division V, Edison has drawn the No. 17 seed, and the Wildcats will play the winner of the game between No. 18 seed Fairless and No. 2 seed Coshocton at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at a site to be announced. The Falcons will take on the Redskins at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 out at Coshocton.
The winner of the Edison game will take on the winner of the game between No. 8 seed River View and No. 12 seed Tuscarawas Valley in the district semifinals at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at a site to be announced. The game between the Black Bears and the Trojans will be played at 7 p.m. Feb.22 out at River View.
The district final is set for 7 p.m. March 1 at a site to be announced.
Also in Division V, Buckeye Local drew the No. 15 seed in the East 2 Sectional/District Tournament, and the Panthers will take on top seed St. Clairsville in the opener at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 down on John Jenkins Court. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the game between No. 6 seed Ridgewood and No. 11 seed Barnesville in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. at a site to be announced. The Generals will play the Shamrocks at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 out at Ridgewood.
The district final is scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at a site to be announced.
Toronto drew the No. 5 seed in Division VI, and the Red Knights will take on No. 6 seed Buckeye Trail in the sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at home inside the George J. Kunzler Memorial Gymnasium.
The winner of that game will take on No. 4 seed Caldwell at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in a sectional co-final at Caldwell.
The winner of the Caldwell game will take on the winner of the game between No. 1 seed Hiland and No. 10 seed Newcomerstown in the district semifinals at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at a site to be announced.
The game between the Hawks and the Trojans is set to take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Hiland.
The district final is set to be played at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at a site to be announced.
Catholic Central is the top seed in Division VII, and the Crusaders will take on No. 4 seed Strasburg-Franklin at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at home inside the Mickey Barber Gymnasium.
The winner of that game will take on the winner of the game between No. 3 seed Frontier and No. 5 seed Bridgeport in the district semifinals at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at a site to be announced.
The game between the Cougars and the Bulldogs is set to be played at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 down at Frontier.
The district final is scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. March 1 at a site to be announced.
