Madonna baseball sweeps a doubleheader on the road

The Madonna baseball team went on the road Saturday and won a pair of games to sweep the day in a split doubleheader.

The Blue Dons topped Wahama, 6-1, then blanked Greater Beckley Christian, 10-0.

In the first game, David Connors had a double, single and an RBI, Maddox Bowen had a doible and an RBI, Kaiden Wells had two hits and plated a run and Reno Fuscardo and Reed Wilharm also drove in a run each.

On the mound, Jacob Lazear went the distance allowing just one hit and striking out eight batters.

In the second game, Koleton Grishkevich had a double, two singles and drove in four runs, while Fuscardo plated two runs, Lazear doubled and Connors had two hits and an RBI.

On the mound, Wilharm tossed a five inning no hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks.

“Jacob Lazear and Reed Wilharm were very efficient and dominant on the mound,” Madonna coach TJ Miller said. “Both did a great job at mixing up their speeds and hitting their spots. We played good defense behind them and collected 20 hits on the day. So, it was a very good day for us. We still need to improve on not leaving so many runners on base, but we will keep working at it. I am extremely proud of the boys today. They are buying in, and we are getting better each time out.”

Madonna is now 9-2, leadfing the OVAC Class A standings and ranked in Class A. The Dons have won six in a row.

Madonna travels to Catholic Central today.

Edison tops Ferry

RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team improved its record to 7-1 with a 13-3 run rule victory over visiting Martins Ferry on Saturday.

The Wildcats scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie, bringing things to an early end.

Martins Ferry scored the first three runs and Edison scored the final 13.

Evan Kimmerle had a double, single and an RBI, JD Henderson had two hits and four RBIs and Cash Meadows had three hits and two RBIs.

Bryce Rogers went 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts, then Kyle Long went the rest of the way to earn the win in relief.

Edison travels to Minerva today.

Big Red falls at St. C

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Big Red baseaball team’s winning streak came to an end with a 10-2 loss at St. Clairsville on Saturday.

Myles Cooper had a double for Big Red, while Matt Matt Fabbro and Kail Simmons each had an RBI.

Big Red hosts Weir High today.

Creek falls at DeSales

COLUMBUS — The Indian Creek baseball team suffered its first setback of the season Saturday, 3-2 in a tight battle at St. Francis De Sales.

Ty Householder had a double and a single, while Hunter Rusnak drove in a run and Sal Barcalow had two hits and an RBI.

Silus Hyde went 4 2/3 innings with five Ks, taking the loss.

Creek viits Beaver Local today.

Oak Glen splits a DH

NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen baseball split a twinbill with visiting Berkeley Sptings on Saturday, winning 11-4 and falling 12-2.

In the win, Sam Jenkins had a triple and two RBIs, while Lucas Zoellers had three hits and two RBIs and Maddox McKay had two hits and drove in two runs.

Noah Willey went the distance for the win on the mound, striking out three. All four runs were unearned.

In the second game, McKay and Colt Hissam each had an RBI, while Christian Chappell and Cam Carter each had a triple.

Brooke falls to Linslu

WELLSBURG — The Brooke baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Linsly on Saturday, 14-0 and 12-10.

Henry Anderson had a double, single and four RBIs in the second game, while Andrew Murdock had two hits and four RBIs.

Brooke travels to Buckeye Local today.

SOFTBALL

Huskies split a DH

CADIZ — The Harrison Central softball team split a twinbill with Ridgewood on Saturday, falling 4-2 and bouncing back with a 5-0 win.

In the opener, Kelsey Powers tripled and had an RBI while Mikayala Pelegreen struck out six in the circle.

In the second game, Powers had two hits and an RBI, Pelegreen had a hit and an RBI and Kamryn Crothers had a triple.

Emma Skinner fanned six for the shutout in the circle.

FRIDAY

Weir wins at home

WEIRTON — The Weir High baseball team pulled away from Berkeley Springs on Friday for a 13-3 win, playing nine runs in the last two innings.

Aleks Zanieski hit a solo homer, Niko Glass had two hits and two RBIs, Colson Kimmel doubled and Connor Lancaster tripled.

Zanieski struck out 13 batters in 5 2/3 innings on the mound.

Weir visits Big Red today.
