Big first inning lifts Panthers over Brooke at home

CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local baseball team plated nine runs in the bottom of the first inning on the way to a 10-4 victory over visiting Brooke on Monday at Bill Mazeroski Field.

The Panthers got two RBIs each from Dom Kempton and Hadyn Boyce, while Mason Griffin and Kaleb Stang each had two hits for the Pathers, now 2-5.

Stang struck out 10 batters and walked just one in going the distance on the mound.

For Brooke (9-7), Henry Anderson had a double and a triple, while Gavin Moore had two singles and Andrew Murdock had a double, single and an RBI and Aiden Provenzano had two hits.

Buckeye has a rematch with Brooke on Wednesday, while the Bruins travel to Big Red today in between meetings with the Panthers.

Creek wins big at Beaver

CALCUTTA — The Indian Creek baseball team got back in the win column on Monday with a 13-1 win on the road at Beaver Local.

Creek (5-1) got a monster day from Ty Householder, who hit a homer, two doubles and drove in three runs.

Silus Hyde had a double, single and also drove in three runs, while Gavin Pownall doubled and singled and brought in a pair of runs.

Creek hosts the Beavers in a rematch on Wednesday.

Edison falls at Minerva

MINERVA — The Edison baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision on the road at Minerva on Monday.

The now 6-2 Wildcats scored first and and had a 2-1 lead through four, but Minerva plated three in the fifth.

Evan Kimmerle had a double, while Kyle Long and Cash Meadows each had an RBI for Edison, who travels to Weir High today.

SOFTBALL

Panthers top the Bruins

CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local softball also picked up a win over visiting Brooke at home on Monday, winning 4-1.

The victory evens the Panthers record up at 5-5.

After Brooke scored first, the Panthers plated the final four runs.

Adison Muldrew had a double and a single, Missy Smith had a double, two singles and two RBIs and Danika Bauknecht drove in a run while Karli Lander had two hits.

Lander fanned seven and did not walk a batter in a complete game victory in the circle.

For Brooke, Eden McKinney had two hits, including a double.

The teams rematch on Wednesday at Brooke.

Creek falls at Beaver

CALCUTTA — The Indian Creek softball team’s three-game win streak came to an end Monday with a 12-3 loss on the road at Beaver Local.

Creek, now 6-6, got a solo homer and two hits from Kylie Dray, while Aziah Ade tripled and Gracie Hollenbeck had an RBI.

McKenna Scott had seven strikeouts in the loss in the circle.

Creek hosts the Beavers on Wednesday.

Huskies blank the Potters

CADIZ — The Harrison Central softball team scored in all five innings of a run rule 10-0 win over East Liverpool on Monday.

The now 8-4 Huskies were led by a two-run homer from Bailey Smith, two hits and two RBIs from Kelsey Powers, a double and two RBIs from Mikayla Pelegreen and a double from Olivia Tonkovich.

Pelegreen struck out seven in three innings of relief work in the circle, while Emma Skinner fanned two in tossing the first two innings.

Edison blanks Wheeling Central

RICHMOND — The Edison softball team picked up a big, 10-0 run rule victory over West Virginia power Wheeling Central on Monday evening at home.

The Wildcats plated four in the third and added six in the fifth to end the game early.

Abby Boka had two doubles, a single and two RBIs, Alli Shrieve had a double, single and three RBIs, Leighanne Anderson had a double, single and two RBIs and Sophia Henderson doubled and plated a run.

Anderson tossed all five innings in the circle, striking out three and holding the Maroon Knights (12-3) to just one hit.

Edison is now 8-8 and hosts Harrison Central in a doubleheader today.

Red Riders fall to Morgantown

WEIRTON — The Weir High softball team dropped a 4-1 decision at home to Morgantown on Monday evening.

For the Red Riders, Loganne Barton had two singles and an RBI.

Eliza Utt struck out four and walked one, hitting three, in a complete game in the circle.

The Red Riders, now 10-4, host a doubleheader against Brooke today.

SATURDAY

Big Red wins two of three

NITRO — The Big Red softball team won two games on Saturday at the Battle for the Belt touranment before falling in the tournament final.

Big Red topped West Muskingum 8-5 and Riverside 13-5 before being edged by Washington, 4-3.

Big Red, now 11-3, went 4-1 in the weekend tournament.

Sena Smith homered against West Muskingum and Sadie Edwards homered against Riverside. Paige Matterson had a double and a triple in the finale.

Big Red travels to John Marshall today.
