Big Red baseball makes it back-to-back victories
UHRICHSVILLE — The Big Red baseball team made it lopsided victories on back-to-back days.
After a big win over Brooke at home on Wednesday, Steubenville went on the road to Claymont and avenged an opening day defeat with a 9-1 win over the Mustangs.
Big Red, now 6-8, broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third and did not look back, scoring the game’s final eight runs.
Myles Cooper had two singles and two RBIs, while AJ Borsch also drove in two runs and Nolan Blackburn and Maddox Gulan each had a pair of hits.
Matt Fabbro went the distance on the mound, striking out seven batters and walking just two. The run against was unearned.
Big Red is slated to travel to Dover on Monday.
Red Knights down Panthers
TORONTO — The Toronto baseball team pushed its winning streak to seven games with an 8-5 victory over Buckeye Local Thursday night at the KBC.
The Red Knights (13-2), got a double and two RBIs from Heath Thomas, two hits and an RBI from Drake Bouscher, a double and an RBI from Chase Heckathorn, and a single and an RBI from Russ Dickinson.
Lucas Wiseman (two strikeouts) and Cole Barcus (four strikeouts) each tossed three innings on the mound.
For the Panthers (5-8), Jordan Kovalski, Mason Griffin, Wyatt Luyster, Kaleb Stang and Hadyn Boyce each had a hit and Grant Dombroski struck out three in five innings on the mound.
Toronto plays Caldwell Saturday in the OVAC Class 2A title game at Edison, while Buckeye Local hosts Bellaire today.
Golden Bears top Potters
NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen baseball team picked up a 13-6 victory over cross-river rival East Liverpool on Thursday at the Field of Dreams Complex.
Oak Glen (9-13) broke a 6-6 tie with a seven-run bottom of the sixth to storm ahead.
Christian Chappell had a triple, two singles and an RBI, while Ethan Wedgewood and Lucas Zoellers each had two hits and two RBIs, Cam Carter had a double, single and an RBI and Josh Maher drove in two runs.
Chappell struck out four in the first five innings, while Bryce Cooper was the winning pitcher in relief with two punch outs in the final two innings.

Central pulls away from JCC
STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central softball team made it a season sweep of Jefferson County Christian on Thursday with an 18-8 victory over the Royals.
After falling behind 5-4 in the top of the second, the Crusaders (4-8) plated 11 runs in the bottom half to break things open and did not look back.
Gianna Lemal went 4 for 4 at the plate with four RBIs, while Miriam Free had three hits and three RBIs, Genna Free had two hits and two RBIs, Grace Fink had a triple and an RBI, Alexis Lathem and Madilyn Birkley had two hits and an RBI, Mary Fink had two hits, Karlie Nese had a hit and an RBI and Lynn Cai drove in two runs with a base hit.
Lathem struck out seven batters in the circle.
Central takes on Madonna on May 2.
