Ohio’s squad for OVAC ASG has strong backfield

WHEELING — A pair of quarterbacks who led their respective teams to regional finals will be calling the signals for the Ohio All Stars in Saturday night’s 79th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game. They are Steubenville’s Aiden Davis and St. Clairsville’s Brady Schafer.
When either of the aforementioned quarterbacks hand the ball off, they will be doing so to a stable of quality running backs in Steubenville’s Jalen Minniefield; St. Clairsville’s tandem of Dino Burk and Gavin Schoolcraft; along with Indian Creek’s Zion McGee.
The All-Star Game kicks off Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at Wheeling Island Stadium.
DAVIS (5-11, 190) started his prep career at Wheeling Park but transferred to Big Red for his senior season. He led Steubenville to the Division III regional finals before they bowed out to Columbus Watterson.
Also an all-state basketball player, Davis has committed to West Liberty University to further his academic and athletic careers.
He is the son of Jose and Amy Davis of Steubenville.
SCHAFER (6-1, 185) passed for 3,335 yards and 32 touchdowns in his three years under center as a Red Devil. He also ran for 454 yards and seven TDs.
Schafer was all-OVAC, all-Buckeye 8, all-Valley and all-Eastern District as a senior after passing for 1,801 yards and running for 253 more. He accounted for 22 total touchdowns.
St. Clairsville fell to eventual state champion Indian Valley in the Division IV regional finals.
He is the son of Jeremy and Andrea Schafer of St. Clairsville.
MINNIEFIELD (5-11, 175) was a threat to go the distance any time he touched the ball for Steubenville.
Besides football, Minniefield also ran track.
He will attend the University of Findlay to play football.
He is the son of James and Tunishia Minniefield of Steubenville.
DINO BURK (5-9, 185) saw his senior season cut short by an injury, but he has responded and is ready to go.
A speedy tailback, Burk ran for nearly 4,000 yards (3,906) during his days as a Red Devil. He also scored 42 touchdowns during his career.
Burk earned first team status All-Eastern District, all-OVAC, all-Buckeye 8 and was the Division IV Eastern District Player of the Year.
He will attend Walsh University.
He is the son of Dean and Vanessa Burk of St. Clairsville.
SCHOOLCRAFT (5-10, 185) ironically took over for Burk when he was injured. He gained 923 yards and scored a dozen touchdowns and caught one TD pass.
Also a standout on defense, Schoolcraft recorded 47 tackles, with 11 being for lost yardage. He had three quarterback sacks and returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown against Harrison Central.
He was first team all-OVAC and was named the St. Clairsville MVP.
He is the son of Shawn and Dawn Schoolcraft of St. Clairsville.
MCGEE (5-8, 181) was a three-time second team all-stater and first-team all-OVAC performer for the Redskins. He holds most of the Indian Creek school rushing records.
He is the son of William McGee and Amber West and resides in Steubenville.
