Indian Creek takes care of business at Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE — The Indian Creek football team got off to the good start that veteran coach Andrew Connor was hoping for on Friday night.

The Redskins made it three-straight opening night wins over Cambridge, going on the road and defeating the Bobcats by a 35-6 margin.

Quarterback Ian Starkey had a big night for Creek, accounting for all five of its touchdowns in the victory.

He threw for three scores and ran for two more, finishing 11 of 13 passing for 169 yards without throwing an interception, while rushing the ball 12 times for 93 more yards.

Bruce Mazar added 62 yards on 10 carries and hauled in five passes for another 57 yard and a score, while Ethan Starr caught three passes — two for touchdowns — for 61 yards.

Starr hauled in an 18-yard Starkey pass to open the scoring less than four minutes into the first quarter.

After Cambridge answered, a blocked extra point kept Creek in front, and Starkey responded with a 16-yard run to make it 14-6, which was the halftime score.

Starkey broke a 22-yard run for a score early in the third quarter, before connecting with Starr again on a 12-yard touchdown.

The final score of the night came on a 13-yard Starkey to Mazar connection in the fourth quarter.

Creek’s defense held the Bobcats to just 63 total yards of offense and recovered three fumbles.

Creek is back on the road next week, traveling north this time to take on East Liverpool.

Henderson’s scoring tosses went for 5 yards to Will Norris and 15 yards to Skyler Willoughby.

Hellyer’s scoring runs covered 9, 5 and 1 yard.

Edison is back at home next week to host Carrollton.
