PREP ROUNDUPS

Huskies top Panthers in a five-set battle

CONNORVILLE — Harrison Central and Buckeye Local battled through five sets, with the Huskies twice coming from a set down to win their first match of the season.

Buckeye took the first set 25-19 and seemed to have the momentum on its side, also capturing the lead in the second set.

But the visitors buckled down behind Leah and Hannah O’Grady and some solid hitting from freshman Emma Jarvis, taking set two 26-24, with scores of 20-25, 25-18 and finally 15-12 to follow.

It was a disappointing finish for the Panthers (0-1) in their season opener. The victory was within grasp.

“We need to learn how to win,” Buckeye Local head coach Abbey Wilson said. “We were up and let them come back in that second set.

“Harrison has a young team and played well. It was definitely a tough loss and we are obviously disappointed in the outcome.

“However, we won’t let this first loss determine the trajectory of our season.”

Senior hitter Jenna DelVecchio led the team in both kills and aces while Karlie Glover did the defensive dirty work, leading the team in digs.

Buckeye is back in action tonight at Indian Creek while Harrison Central hosts Catholic Central in Cadiz.
