Beall scores 4 in first 8 minutes to lead Big Red over Edison
STEUBENVILLE — The talented Big Red girls’ soccer team was too much for its Jefferson County rivals to handle.
Bailee Beall tallied four goals less than eight minutes into the match leading Big Red to a 12-1 victory against Edison via mercy rule Tuesday night on Reno Saccoccia Field inside Harding Stadium.
Beall also collected an assist in the win for Big Red (8-1-1).
“I want to commend Edison,” Big Red head coach Annie Cutri said. “They played the whole 80 minutes. Even in the last 10 minutes, they were talking and playing with energy. I want to commend them for not giving up Kudos to them for that.”
Jaylin Crites, Jaclynn Stewart, Brynn Bowers, Sagan Smarrella, Kenzy Petrelle, Lucy Saccoccia, Sadie Edwards and Gianna Thomas all added a goal for the Red and Black.
Thomas, Bowers and Petrelle all contributed two assists, while Saccoccia, Edwards and Crites all delivered one.
McKinley Carr recorded the goal for the Wildcats (0-7-1).
Sadie Edwards started the match in goal for the hosts before being replaced during the second half by Beall. Edwards did not face a shot.
Edison also used two goalies, however, its circumstances were different. Kendall Adams started in the net, however, the junior went down with an injury a little more than a minute into the match, and she had to be replaced by Kloe Riley, who played in goal the rest of the way. Riley ended the night with 12 saves.
“We were ab to give our younger girls some playing time tonight,” Cutri said. “I’m proud of the effort on both sides.”
The match was the final one for Big Red prior to the start of the OVAC Tournament. The cutoff date to qualify for the annual conference tournament is Thursday.
Big Red is currently in third place in the Class 5A standings behind Wheeling Park and University. Parkersburg South is currently in fourth place.
Edison is scheduled to play Ridgewood at 6 p.m. Thursday at home out at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.
