Big Red fifth, Elliott 10th at district golf tournament

LANCASTER — The Big Red golf team’s strong season came to an end on Monday with a fifth place finish in the Division I East/Southeast District Tournament at Lancaster Golf Club.

Steubenville fired a team score of 351 on the day.

Senior Christopher Elliott led the way for Steubenville with a score of 85, tying for 10th overall to conclude his decorated Big Red career.

Junior Noah Kokiko fired an 88 to place 18th. Juniors Andrew Matzorkis and Jaggar Rawson each shot 89 to tie for 20th overall. Freshman Patrick Jenkins finished with a 92, tying for 28th overall.

Sheridan won the district title with a team score of 333 to earn a trip to the state tournament. New Philadelphia’s Brady Evans tied with Sheridan’s Owen Cains for the individual title with an 80, Evans earning the individual state tournament spot.

Weir tops Buckeye Local

BELLAIRE — The Weir High volleyball team defeated Buckeye Local on Monday in OVAC consolation action at Bellaire, 25-19 and 25-23.

Amalia Kirlangitis had 14 assists, four digs and three aces, Ella Kaufman had nine digs, three kills and two aces, Illionna Kirlangitis had five digs, two aces and three kills and Kaylee Webster recorded four digs, two asssits and two aces for the Red Riders.
