Soccer tournament pairings are set in Ohio
STEUBENVILLE — The local Ohio soccer teams and volleyball teams learned the postseason fates.
The seeds were announced Saturday, however, the draws were not held until Sunday.
The Big Red, Indian Creek and Catholic Central girls’ soccer teams are all scheduled to open up postseason play Monday in Eastern District competitions. Big Red and the Redskins are in Division III, while the Crusaders are in Division V.
Starting in Division III, No. 2 seed Big Red will take on No. 5 seed Zanesville in a sectional co-final at 6:30 p.m. on Reno Saccoccia Field inside Harding Stadium. The winner of that match will take on No. 4 seed Tri-Valley in a district semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the better seeded team’s home field.
Also, No. 7 Indian Creek is set to play No. 2 seed Dover in a sectional co-final at 6:30 p.m. Monday on the road. The winner of that match will take on either No. 1 seed John Glenn or No. 6 seed New Philadelphia in a district semifinal Oct. 20 at the better seeded team’s home field. The Little Muskies take on the Quakers Monday at home.
The district final is set for Oct. 22 at neutral side.
In Division V, the No. 6 seed Sandy Valley will play No. 3 seed Catholic Central at 4:30 p.m. in a sectional co-final at the Tony Recinella Soccer Field. The winner of that match will take on the winner of the match between No. 1 Bishop Rosecrans and No. 8 Shenandoah in a district semifinal Monday out in Zanesville.
The district final is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at a neutral site.
Edison and Harrison Central are set to open up postseason play Oct. 15 in Division IV.
Edison – the No. 15 seed – is set to play No. 1 seed Beaver Local in a sectional co-final at 6:30 p.m. on the road. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the match between No. 10 seed River View and No. 12 seed Carrollton in the district semifinals at the better seeded team’s home field. The match between the Black Bears and the Warriors is slated to be held Oct. 15 in Warsaw.
Also, No. 14 seed Harrison Central is scheduled to take on No. 4 seed Philo in a sectional co-final at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 on the road. The winner of that match will take on the winner of the match between No. 6 West Holmes and No 11 seed East Liverpool in a district semifinal Oct. 20 at the better seeded team’s home field. The match between the Knights and the Potters is set to be held Oct. 15 out in Millersburg.
The district final is slated to be played Oct. 22 at neutral site.
The Big Red and Catholic Central boys are scheduled to open up postseason play Oct. 14. Big Red will be taking part in the Division III tournament, while the Crusaders are competing in Division V.

The winner of that match will take on the winner of the match between No. 3 Tusky Valley and No. 6 Fairless in a district semifinal Oct. 21 at the better seeded team’s home field. The Trojans will be the team in their match against the Falcons Oct. 15.
The district final is set for Oct. 23 at a neutral site.
Edison and Harrison Central will be taking part in the Division IV – East 2 – Tournament beginning Oct. 16.
No. 16 seed Edison is slated to play No. 2 seed River View in a sectional co-final at 6:30 p.m. on the road. The winner of that match will take on the winner of the match between No. 8 seed Union Local and No. 9 seed Harrison Central in a district semifinal Oct. 21 at the better seeded team’s home field. The Jets will be the home team in their match Oct. 16 against the Huskies.
The district final is set for Oct. 23 at a neutral site.
The Indian Creek boys’ soccer team is not competing in a postseason tournament this season.
The Buckeye Local and Edison teams will begin postseason play in Division V Monday, while Toronto and Catholic Central will play the same night in Division VII.
In Division V, No. 10 seed Buckeye Local is set to take on No. 8 seed West Muskingum in a sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. on the road. The winner of that match will play No. 1 seed Union Local in a sectional co-final Oct. 16 on the road.
Also, No. 12 seed Edison is set to take No. 3 seed Fairless in a sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. on the road. The winner of that match will take on No. 4 seed Sandy Valley in a sectional co-final Oct. 16 at the better seeded team’s home.
The winners of those matches Oct. 16 will meet in the district semifinals Oct. 21 at the better seeded team’s home. The district final is set for Oct. 23 at a neutral site.
Finally, No. 6 Toronto will play No. 10 seed Catholic Central in a sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. Monday inside the George J. Kunzler Memorial Gymnasium. The Red Knights swept the Crusaders during the regular season.
The winner of the match between the two Jefferson County rivals will play No. 1 seed Conotton Valley in a sectional co-final Oct. 15 on the road. The winner of the match featuring the Rockets will play either No. 3 seed Caldwell or No. 11 Bridgeport in a district semifinal Oct. 20 at the better seeded team’s home. The Redskins will be the home team in their match Oct. 20 against the Bulldogs.
The district final is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at a neutral site.
Harrison Central and Indian Creek are set to compete in Division IV play Oct. 14. The Huskies are in the East 1 bracket, while the Redskins are in the East 2 bracket.
Harrison Central – the No. 13 seed – will take on No. 4 seed St. Clairsville in a sectional co-final at 6 p.m. down at John Jenkins Court. The winner of that match will take on the winner of the match between No. 5 East Liverpool and No. 8 John Glenn in the district semifinals Oct. 21 at the better seeded team’s home. The match between the Potters and Little Muskies is set to be held Oct. 14 up at Potter Fieldhouse.
The district final is set for Oct. 23 at a neutral site.
Also, No. 14 Indian Creek is slated to play No. 3 seed Beaver Local at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 on the road. The winner of that match will play the winner of the match between No. 6 seed Minerva and No. 9 seed Carrollton in a district semifinal Oct. 21 at the better seeded team’s home. The match between the Lions and Warriors is scheduled to take place Oct. 14 at Minerva.
The district final is set for Oct. 23 at a neutral site.
Big Red is slated to open up play in Division III Oct. 15. Big Red – the No. 3 seed – is set to face off against No. 2 seed Tri-Valley in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. that night on the road.

There are no local teams competing in Division VI.
