Edison pulls away from HC to go to 2-0

CADIZ – The Edison girls basketball team is off to a 2-0 start.

The Wildcats pulled away for a 54-34 road victory at OVAC and Buckeye 8 Conference foe Harrison Central on Wednesday night.

After taking a 9-7 lead after one quarter, the Wildcats out-scored the Huskies (0-1) 16-3 in the second quarter to pull away for good.

Leading the way for Edison was Abby Carpenter with a game-high 23 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Abby Boka netted 11 Sophia Henderson seven.

For the Huskies, Mikayla Pelegreen tallied 10 points and six rebounds.

Toronto tops Buckeye Local

CONNORVILLE – The Toronto girls basketball team went on the road to Buckeye Local Wednesday evening and defeated the Panthers 52-28 to even up their season mark at 1-1.

Jayna Reeves led the Red Knights with 20 points, while Josey Dickinson tallied 14 and Olivia Owings eight.

For the Panthers (0-2), Samantha Westfall netted 11 points.

Panthers fall at Bellaire

BELLAIRE – The Buckeye Local boys basketball team’s comeback came up a little short as the Panthers dropped a close decision on the road at Bellaire on Wednesday in the season opener, 64-58.

The Panthers fell behind 24-10 after one quarter and trailed 38-17 at halftime, but came out of the break and scored 20 in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth quarter to tighten things up, out-scoring the Big Reds 41-26 in the second half, though it was not enough.

Leading the way was Haden Wilhelm with 19 points and Jusante Wright with 11.
