Shorthanded Red Knights win again

BRIDGEPORT — The Toronto girls basketball team went on the road and fended off Bridgeport for a 47-45 victory on Thursday night.

The victory gives the Red Knights wins on back-to-back nights with just five players dressed in both games.

Jayna Reeves netted a game-high 21 points for Toronto, while Josey Dickinson netted 13. All five players dressed scored for a second-straight night.

Toronto, now 4-6, has a much-needed break as they are off until a Dec. 29 meeting with East Palestine.

Crusaders clawed by Tigers

STEUBENVILLE — Shadyside went to the Mickey Barber Gymnasium Thursday and left with a 51-43 victory over Catholic Central in girls basketball action.

Mara Delaney led the Crusaders with 15 points, while Mary Rohde netted 12 and Shya Garcia 10 for the Crusaders.

Central falls to 4-3 on the season.

The Crusaders travel to city rival Big Red on Saturday in the annual Watt/Nese Classic.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Toronto wins in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Toronto boys basketball team opened its trip to Florida in victorious fashion on Thursday.

The Red Knights, who made the trip to Orlando to compete in the KSA Events Holiday Tournaments, defeated Redlands Academy out of Homestead, Fla, 68-25 on the opening day of action in the Pre-Holiday Tournament grey bracket.

Austin Buchanon netted 11 points, while Brody Winters and Hank Bodnar each netted 10 to put three in double digits.

The now 4-0 Red Knights take on Columbine (Colorado) in the semifinal round of their bracket today.

JM tops senior night tri

WELLSBURG — The John Marshall swim team topped a senior night tri over host Brooke and Indian Creek on Thursday, winning the boys, girls and overall team scoring.

For Brooke, the girls 400 free relay team, Kiersten Harvath in the 100 back and 500 free, Lindsey Kettler in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly and Aiden Stock in the 50 free won events.

Creek’s Paul Oberrauch topped the 100 free.
