Creek girls top Beaver for back-to-back wins
CALCUTTA — The Indian Creek girls basketball team is back on track, knocking off Beaver Local on the road Monday for back-to-back victories following its first and only loss of the season last week.
The Redskins went on the road and defeated the Beavers 59-30, improving their season mark to 8-1 headed into the Christmas break.
Kaydence Walker and Gracie Klinesmith each netted 18 points to lead the way, while Riley Sadler tallied 13.
Edison stays undedeated
LORE CITY — The Edison girls basketball team’s undefeated start keeps rolling as the Wildcats went on the road Monday and knocked off Buckeye Trail 55-40 to improve to 8-0.
The Wildcats, off to their best start in over a decade at least, were led by 17 points from Abby Carpenter and 14 points from Sophia Henderson as seven different players scored.
Edison has a week off for the holiday before taking on Catholic Central Dec. 29.
Oak Glen tops Weir High
NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen girls basketball team picked up a 55-37 victory over visiting rival Weir High on Monday.
The Golden Bears out-scored the Red Riders 21-7 in the third quarter to pull away for good.
Mikalyn Balch netted a team-high 22 points for Oak Glen (4-1), while Ella Stewart hit three 3s and finished with 12 points.
Weir (1-6) got a game-high 24 points from Ryann Jeter and 11 from Lili Ascencio.
Oak Glen is off until Dec. 29 when it hosts Williamstown, while Weir takes on Fairmont Senior Dec. 30.
Madonna tops Valley
PINE GROVE — The Blue Dons earned a hard-fought road win Monday against the Lumberjills, 43-38.
Rylee Birkhimer, Adalynne Welch and Taylor Birkhimer all scored 11 points for Madonna.
The Dons have a rematch with Catholic Central on Saturday.
