Edison girls top Toronto to stay undefeated at 11-0

TORONTO — The Edison girls basketball team’s undefeated start keeps rolling.

The Wildcats topped Toronto 71-46 on Monday night to improve to 11-0 on the season, continuing the best start for the program in more than two decades.

The Wildcats got off to a flying start, netting 24 points in each of the first two quarters to open a 48-19 lead at halftime.

The Red Knights, again playing with just five players, had a better second half, but the Wildcats were already on their way to securing a season sweep of the Red Knights.

Leading Edison with a game-high 18 points was Sophia Henderson. She is nearing the 1,000 mark for her career, now 19 points away.

Abby Carpenter netted 15, Abby Boka nine and Aliya Glover and Gracen Casto each tallied six.

For Toronto (4-8) Jayna Reeves tallied 17 points and Josey Dickinson 11.

Edison hosts Heartland Christian on Thursday, while Toronto travels to Southern on Wednesday.

Creek pulls away from HC

CADIZ — The Indian Creek girls basketball team went on the road to Harrison Central on Monday and completed a season sweep of the Huskies with a 59-24 victory.

The Redskins, now 11-1 on the season, scored 21 points in the first and 23 in the second to open a big lead at halftime and cruised from there.

Kaydence Walker netted a game-high 20 points, while Gracie Klinesmith tallied 15 and Riley Sadler 13.

Defensively Creek held the Huskies (6-7) in single digits in all four quarters.

Leading Harrison Central was Ava Conley with 10 points.

Creek is at home against East Liverpool on Thursday, while the Huskies host Buckeye Local Thursday.

Madonna falls in OT

BRIDGEPORT — The Madonna girls basketball team dropped a close 49-46 decision in overtime on the road at Bridgeport on Monday night.

The game was tied at 38-38 after four quarters, but the Bulldogs out-scored the Blue Dons 11-8 in the extra quarter.

Rosa Cody netted 14 points to lead Madonna, while Taylor Birkhimer netted nine and Sophie Brady eight.

Big Red girls top Park

WHEELING — In a battle of OVAC Class 5A foes, the Big Red girls basketball team went on the road Saturday and defeated Wheeling Park 76-49.

Big Red which reached double digits in the win column and improved to 10-1, had five players in double digits.

Nylah McShan and Bailee Beall each netted 15 points, while Lucy Saccoccia tallied 14, Mikah Taylor 13 and Phynyx Fleming 10.

Big Red travels to John Marshall on Thursday.
