NEW MANCHESTER — The Edison girls basketball team’s unbeaten start to the season is now a record-setting start. 

The Wildcats defeated Oak Glen on the road Saturday 54-48 to improve to 16-0, which tied the school mark for consecutive victories. 

Edison was led by 25 points from Abby Carpenter and 20 from Sophia Henderson. 

Oak Glen got 18 from Mikalyn Balch. 

WRESTLING 

Big Red second

at Frank Ferguson

WELLSBURG — Big Red amassed 205.5 points to place second at the annual Frank Ferguson Invitational at Brooke High School.

Steubenville had two champions in Jailen Steve (113) and Landon Crosier (175). Dorian Hadad (132) and Julius Mullins (138) finished second.

CANAL FULTON — The Big Red girls wrestling team places second out of 44 teams at the Northwest Fear the Spear Tournament Saturday. 

Jahmiah-el Bey and Talea Guntrum won individual titles. 

Edison placed 10th overall. 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cambridge Wins

Buckeye 8 title 

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Bobcats led 39-21 at the half but outscored the Beavers 18-4 in the decisive third quarter en route to a 71-40 victory in the championship game at the ECO Center.

Garrett Carpenter poured in 34 points to pace Cambridge. Cam Lauer added 16.

Matt Anderson led Beaver Local with 10.

Third Place

St. Clairsville 68, Brooke 50

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Griffin Straub (26) and Luke Schafer (17) combined for 43 points as the Red Devils defeated the Bruins.

Brooke was led by Grant Yost with 20. Andrew Murdock added 11.

Fifth Place   

Martins Ferry 67, East Liverpool 52

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Anthony Booth netted 24 points and Eli Smith chipped in 21 as the Purple Riders ran past the Potters.

Tyler Kirby had 14 for East Liverpool.

Seventh Place

Union Local 43, Indian Creek 36

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Jets were led by Bam Porter and Brody Kerns who evenly split 30 points in their win over the Redskins.

Nishon White had 14 for Indian Creek.

Oak Glen falls at Rotary event 

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Oak Glen boys basketball team dropped a close 70-66 decision to Tyler Consolidated at the Rotary Classic inside Magnolia High School. 

Noah Willey had a big day in the loss, netting 24 points. Elijah Knisley netted 10.
