Franciscan’s season comes to an end in PAC tourney semis

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Franciscan University of Steubenville’s men’s basketball team’s successful season came to an end on Thursday evening in the Presdident’s Athletic Conference tournament semifinals.

The Barons, who had their first 20-win season in more than five decades, fell to top seed Washington and Jefferson on the road, 75-65.

FUS closes the season at 21-6. Three of the those six losses came to Washington and Jefferson.

Sawyer Butler, who was the PAC’s leading scorer this season, netted 17 points to go with four rebounds, two steals and an assist for the Barons. Zach Oliver finished with a 12-point, 10-rebound double. Nathan Richards came off the bench and netted 15 points.

The Barons shot 33.3 percent overall but just 16.7 percent from 3-point range, going 1 of 14 in the second half.

It was the final game in green and gold for two seniors — Monroe Central product Malchi Rose-Burton and Reece Miller.
