FUS men move on in the PAC tourney

MEADVILLE — The Barons are moving on.

The Franciscan University of Steubenville’s men’s basketball team went on the road in the opening round of the President’s Athletic Conference tournament and defeated Allegheny, 66-62, in the quarterfinals.

The Barons move on to a third showdown with Washington and Jefferson in the PAC semifinals on Thursday night.

FUS, which is now 21-5 and has its first 20-win season since starting to compete in NCAA Division III and PAC South co-regular champs, continues its best season since 1972-73.

Sawyer Butler, who finshed the regular season as the PAC leading scorer, netted a game-high 24 points to lead the Barons and grabbed seven rebounds with three steals and two assists, while Zach Oliver netted 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Tuesday’s game was a battle as there were eight lead changes and the game was tied six times.
