OHSAA boys basketball tournaments are set
The pairings for the upcoming OHSAA sectional and district basketball tournaments were finalized on Sunday and the fields are set.
The seeding, for a second-straight season, was set by the MaxPreps RPI standings system.
Of the seven local teams that compete on the Ohio side of the river, two of them — Steubenville and Toronto — earned top-two seeds in their district standings
DIVISION III
Fresh off its OVAC title on Saturday, Big Red earned the top seed in the East District side of the East/Southeast brackets and will compete in the East/Southeast 2 bracket.
Big Red (18-1), opens its tournament run against No. 3 seed Dover at a site to be announced at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
The winner of that game will advance to meet the winner that emerges from Jackson/Hillsboro and Chilcothe/Sheridan, who are battling in the Southeast side of things, at Ohio University on March 4 at 8:15 p.m. for a trip to regionals.
Big Red has a win over Dover during the regular season.
DIVISION IV
Division IV is broken into two brackets.
In East 1, Edison is the No. 11 seed in the bracket and travels to No. 9 East Liverpool at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
In East 2, Indian Creek is the No. 12 seed and travels to No. 2 Cambridge at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27.
The district semis in both brackets are March 3 at sites TBD and both district finals are set for 7 p.m. March 6 at a site TBD.
DIVISION V
Division V is also broken into two brackets.
On the East 1 side, Harrison Central is the No. 12 seed and travels to No. 10 Barnesville at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28. The Huskies own a win over the Shamrocks this season.
On the East 2 side, Buckeye Local is the No. 13 seed and travels to No. 7 Tuscarwas Valley at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
The district semifinals will be at sites TBD on March 4 and the district finals are on March 7, also at sites TBD.
DIVISION VI
OVAC champions Toronto have earned the No. 2 seed in the district and will open the tournament at home hotsing No. 5 Buckeye Trail at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27.
The Red Knights (18-3) would advance to the district semis on March 3 at a site TBD with a win.
The district final will be played on March 6 at 7 p.m. at a site TBD.
DIVISION VII
Catholic Central finished as the No. 6 seed and has a chance to play at home as the Crusaders will meet the winner of No. 4 Malvern and No. 7 Tuscarawas Central, who play a first-round game on Feb. 24.
If Tusky Central wins, Central would be at home at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27. If Malvern wins, Central travels to face the Hornets.
The district semis are on March 3 at 7 p.m. and the district final is at 7 p.m. on March 6, both at sites TBD.
