Brooke boys pull away from Edison for big win on senior night

WELLSBURG — The Brooke boys basketball team celebrated its seniors in style on Thursday.

The Bruins earned their 11th win of the season by pulling away from visiting Edison for a 73-54 senior night victory inside the Brooke Wellness Center.

Crosby Morris led the Bruins with 19 points, five rebounds and three blocks, while Pete Fodor netted 18 points and dished four assists and Andrew Murdock tallied 12 points and grabbed six boards to put three Bruins in double figures.

Edison’s Timmy DeGarmo netted a game-high 22 points in the loss.

Stewart’s 32 not enough for OG

NEW MANCHESTER — Ella Stewart had a huge night for Oak Glen on Thursday, tallying a career-high 32 points and making nine 3-pointers, but the Golden Bears dropped a 69-64 decision to visiting St. Marys.

Emma Everett netted 13 points and Mikalyn Balch 10.

TOURNAMENT

Huskies fall in first round

CADIZ — Harrison Central dropped a close 38-34 decision to Indian Valley in the opening round of the Division IV, East District tournament on Thursday.

The Huskies, who were the sixth seed finish their season at 9-14.

BOWLING

Barnesville, Kovalski from Buckeye are state qualifiers

COSHOCTON — For the first time in program history, the Barnesville boys bowling team will be competing in the state tournament.

Thursday at Legacy Lanes, the Shamrocks rolled a team score of 3,766 to win the Division II Eastern District championship by 106 pins over River View.

Junior Bo Detling led Barnesville with a fourth-place finish as he rolled games of 199, 169 and 232 for a 600 series. Senior Keegan Martin (222, 173, 184) had a 579 for fifth place, followed by juniors Cole Eddy (157, 163, 204) at 524 and Jacob Whitacre (153, 225, 138) at 516, which was good for 13th and 18th, respectively. Senior Colton Hall (121, 166, 159) finished 30th with a 446.

Senior Tristan Thompson did not compete.

Individually, Buckeye Local sophomore Michael Kovalski finished second with a 612 (194, 217, 201), just one pin behind Conotton Valley’s Michael Lorello.

The state tournament will be held on Feb. 27 at H.P. Lanes in Columbus.
