Weir High softball team is off to a 3-0 start to the season
WEIRTON — The Weir High softball team beat Linsly on Friday, then swept a double header with Tyler on Saturday for a 3-0 start to the season.
The Red Riders got a double and two singles from Lila Boilegh and two singles and an RBI from Loganne Barton while Eliza Utt struck out 10 in a 4-0 blanking of Linsly.
In the first game Saturday, a 13-0 win, Utt fanned seven and drove in two runs at the plate, reaching 500 career strikeouts in the proccess.
Boilegh drove in four runs and Bella Weber drove in three.
In game two Saturday, Weir won 15-0, Weber driving in four runs and Boiegh three, while Utt and Weber combined for another shutout in the circle.
Madonna starts 2-0
WEIRTON — The Madonna softball team is off to a 2-0 start after topping Clay-Battelle Friday and Magnolia on Saturday.
In a 10-1 win over the Cee-Bees, the Blue Dons got three hits from Peyton Conley and two hits and three RBIs each from Kendall Ryan and Breea Birkhimer, while Ryan struck out six and did not walk a batter for the win in the circle.
The Blue Dons then went on the road Saturday and knocked off the Blue Eagles, 9-0, thanks to three hits and two RBIs from Ryan, two RBIs from MAdi Owens and Conley striking out eight without a walk.
Oak Glen falls to University
NEW MANCHESTER — The Golden Bears dropped a 7-1 decision in the season opener against University on Saturday.
Alex Watkins had the lone RBI for Oak Glen.
Indian Creek sweeps UL
WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek softball team swept a doubleheader against Union Local on Saturday. topping the Jets by scores of 11-4 and 15-14 at home.
