Big Red pulls away to top Canfield
STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red softball team used a four-run sixth inning to break a 3-all tie and pull away for a big, 7-3 victory over visiting Canfield Monday evening at the Crimson Complex.
Steubenville improves to 3-1 with the victory.
Akron signee Sadie Edwards had a double, triple and two RBIs, while Sophia Zorne also had two hits and two RBIs, Sagan Smarrella drove in a run and doubled and Isabella Cadile plated a run.
Cadile tossed another complete game for Big Red, striking out three and walking two.
Big Red is on the road Thursday at Wheeling Park in a rematch of their opening day match up.
Oak Glen gets a big win over Wheeling Central
NEW MANCHESTER — In a rematch of last year’s sectional final, Oak Glen pulled away from visiting Wheeling Central on Monday evening at the Field of Dreams Complex for an impressive 11-3 run-rule victory.
After the Maroon Knights had tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning, the Golden Bears (5-3) scored eight unanswered runs.
Brayley Lash blasted a homer and finished 4 for 4 with two RBIs, Neveah Heath tallied two doubles and three RBIs, Mattie Carney tripled, singled and had an RBI and Macie Hartung had two hits and two RBIs.
Carney struck out five and walked two in five innings for the victory in the circle.
Oak Glen travels to Edison on Thursday.
Toronto falls to Linsly
WHEELING — The Toronto softball team dropped a 13-2 decision on the road at Linsly on Monday to fall to 4-2 on the season.
Lily Sapp had two hits and Vivian Gump drove in two runs for the Red Knights, who visit St. Clairsville today.

Crusaders get Henry his first win
STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central baseball team bounced back from their opening day loss in a big way, pulling away from Bridgeport in their home opener for an 11-1 run-rule victory.
The win was the first for first-year head coach Andrew Henry.
Jojo Corabi and Luke Bryan each had a double, two singles and an RBI, Ty Symington had two hits an an RBI, Zach Bryan had two hits and two RBIs and Andrew Napoli and Matty Jones each drove in a run for the now 1-1 Crusaders.
Luke Bryan tossed all six innings for the win on the mound, striking out nine batters and walking two.
Central hosts Shadyside tonight.
Creek opens with a win over Buckeye Local
CONNORVILLE — Indian Creek went on the road to Buckeye Local on Monday for what was the season opener for both teams and cruised to a 13-2 victory over the Panthers.
The Redskins plated five runs in the top of the first inning and did not look back.
James Brothers had a double and drove in three runs, while Logan Wedlake, Max Lane and Luke McVicker plated a pair each in the victory.
On the mound, Creek’s Silus Hyde tossed the first four innings and earned the win, striking out seven against just one walk. Adam Brothers struck out five over the final three innings, also walking just one.
For Buckeye Local, Mason Meeks and Dugan Dobrovich each had an RBI, Meeks finishing with two hits.
Jordan Kovalski had seven strikeouts and five walks for the Panthers in four innings. Daniel Divjak fanned three in 2 1/3 innings.
Creek hosts Brooke on Wednesday while the Panthers visit East Liverpool on Wednesday.
Madonna suffers first loss
NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Madonna baseball team fell from the ranks the unbeaten Monday with a 3-0 loss on the road at Magnolia.
The Blue Dons (3-1) were held to four hits, Evan Kaczmarek hitting a double for the lone extra base knock.
Reno Fuscrdo struck out five and walked three in going four innings in the loss on the mound.
Madonna is at Beaver Local today.
Edison blanks Beaver to go to 2-0
RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team shutout visiting Beaver Local on Monday evening, 6-0.
The Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season, both wins coming by shutout.
Brady Haught and Bryce Rogers each had a hit and two RBIs for Edison, while Haught struck out seven and walked two in going five innings for the win on the mound.
The Wildcats take a trip to East Liverpool today.
