Boys doubles titles earned at OVAC Tennis championships
WHEELING — It was the boys’ turn to compete on the courts Wednesday as this year’s OVAC Tennis Tournament flipped to boys competition, with champions crowned in No. 1 Doubles, No. 2 Doubles and No. 3 Doubles brackets during play on the courts at Wheeling Park’s Indoor Tennis Center.
After girls doubles and singles earlier in the week, Wednesday covered boys doubles competition, with boys singles finishing off OVAC Tennis action on Thursday.
Heading into the final day of the conference tournament, Morgantown stands alone in first place, while Linsly and University are close behind, tied for second. Marietta is in third, and John Marshall and Wheeling Park are tied for fourth.
In the No. 3 Doubles bracket, Morgantown’s Amari Knights and Eli Kellermeyer claimed the title. In the No. 2 Doubles bracket, University’s Trace McLaren and Danny Weil came out on top.
In the No. 1 Doubles bracket, it was the team of Leonardo Ciato and Andrew Hoang from The Linsly School who took the gold, defeating University’s Alexander Nagy and Kalman Nagy 8-6. Ciato and Hoang were the No. 2 seed in the bracket, and defeated the Hawks’ No. 1-seeded squad. They were dominant in their run to the finals, winning their first-round matchup 8-1, before winning 8-0 in both the quarterfinals and semifinals.
