Early homers lead Beaver over Creek

Ron Firth Indian Creek shortstop Kylie Dray and second baseman Olivia Hollenbeck converge on a popup at Beaver Local on Monday.

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local slugged four home runs in the first three innings and slugged Indian Creek, 10-0, in five innings Monday.

Brylee Curtis, Ciara Call, Calleigh Eells and Mya Anderson all hit homers over the fence in right-center to give the Beavers an 8-0 lead before recording their eighth out.

The Beavers improve to 13-2 heading into today’s home game against East Liverpool.

Anderson went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and scored three runs. Leadoff hitter Gianna Congrove had three hits and Brenna Jones had two doubles.

Addie Thurik earned the five-inning shutout, scattering three singles with nine strikeouts and no walks. She struck out five of the first six batters swinging before giving up a single to McKenna Puskarich leading off the third inning.

But the Beaver Local power show topped the highlights.

After Indian Creek got the first two Beavers out, three of the next five batters hit home runs.

Curtis started it off, followed by an Ally Wright single and a Call two-run shot to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Eells led off the second inning with another blast. Anderson singled to center field and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Macie Bourne walked and Congrove hit an RBI single. Curtis singled to load the bases and the Beavers scored their sixth run after the Indian Creek pitcher lost the ball on the windup.

Jones led off the third inning with a double off the center field fence, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Eells’ sacrifice fly. Anderson followed with a solo shot to build the Beavers’ lead to 8-0.

Indian Creek drops to 5-10.
