Morgantown shines on first day of OVAC tennis
GLEN DALE – Defending champion Morgantown got off to a fantastic start Monday as the OVAC Girls’ Doubles championships kicked off a four-day week on the John Marshall High School courts.
The Mohigans placed a team in all three finals, winning two, in amassing 11 points. City rival University was second with eight followed by Wheeling Park with six.
The Patriots’ No. 1 duo of Madeline Bradshaw and Samantha Piko captured the No. 1 title with an 8-6 victory over the third-seeded Morgantown tandem of Maya Greenlee and Annika Chadha. The top-seeded Wheeling Park twosome cruised 8-0 in their quarterfinal match and 8-1 in the semifinals.
At No. 2, the Mohigans’ top-seeded Chen sisters defeated the Hawks’ duo, 8-6, while Morgantown’s top-seeded No. 3 team topped University’s, 8-1.
Action continues Tuesday with girls singles at 8:30. The boys take over the courts on Wednesday with doubles. Singles concludes the week on Thursday.
