Edison improves to 3-0
EAST LIVERPOOL — The the second time in three outing, the Edison baseball team topped East Liverpool. This time, the Wildcats did it on the road, going up Route 7 and returning with a 12-3 victory on Tuesday evening.
The Wildcats scored two runs each in the first two innings, then exploded for seven in the top of the fifth o go up 11-0 and take complete control.
Edison was led by Kyle Long’s 4 for 4 day with three RBIs, while Kayden Russell tallied a double, single and two RBIs, Evan Kimmerle also doubled and Brady Haught drove in three runs with a pair of hits.
Nolan Haught had four strikeouts in tossing the first four innings to earn the win on the mound.
Edison is slated to visit Beaver Local today in search of another repeat win.
Wheeling Park tops Brooke for first win
WHEELING — Chad Stout will remember his first victory in his second go-round as head coach of the Wheeling Park baseball program.
Tuesday afternoon high atop the Friendly City, the Patriots (1-3) struck for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised from there for a 16-1 triumph over Brooke in four-and-a-half innings on Patriot Field, avenging a 1-0 loss on opening day in Wellsburg.
Miles Gorby drove in four runs with a single, double and pair of triples as Wheeling Park banged out 14 hits against a trio of Bruin hurlers. Kolten Whitmire singled twice and doubled to produce three runs, while Jaxon Updegraff doubled twice to plate three runs.
Tristen Hayes added a two-run double for Wheeling Park, while Bode Cox singled, doubled and knocked in a run. Braydon Bartsch had two singles and two runs batted in.
Whitemire went the distance, fanning four, walking one and giving up five hits — all singles. The lone run was unearned.
Madonna falls at Beaver Local
CALCUTTA — The Madonna baseball team dropped its second game in as many to fall to 3-2 on the season, coming up on the wrong side of a 4-2 decision on the road at Beaver Local on Tuesday.
Sam Brooks had a double and an RBI, while Jacob Lazear also doubled and Maddox Bowen had two hits.
Lazear took the loss on the mound, striking out nine without a walk. Only one of the four runs were earned as Madonna committed four error behind him
Madonna is off until Monday when Shenandoah comes to Bowman Field.
SOFTBALL
Huskies improve to 3-1
BELMONT — The Harrison Central softball grounded the Union Local Jets on Tuesday, 5-1.
The Huskies got two hits each from Denaly Stull, Makayla Pelegreen and Bailey Smith in the win, Pelegreen and Jaylin Ward each having a double.
Pelegreen also earned the win in the circle, firing seven strikeouts and walking four in a complete game.
Harrison Central visits Point Pleasant on Friday afternoon.
Bruins win big at Central
STEUBENVILLE — The Brooke softball team pulled away from Catholic Central for a 20-4 win on the road on Tuesday.
Brooke, now 3-5, had two hits and two RBIs each from Eden McKinney and Avery Rado, while Julianna Morrisett drove in two runs and Gabby Hornick had three hits, plated two runs and was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts.
Central got two hits and an RBI from Miriam Free.
Toronto falls at St. C
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Toronto softball team dropped a high-scoring 13-8 loss on the road at St. Clairsville on Tuesday to fall to 4-3.
Arianna Highsmith had a double, single and three RBIs for the Red Knights, while Jaylee Brown also doubled, Anna Wright had two hits and an RBI and Hailey Bodnar tallied two hits.
Toronto hosts Wheeling Central today.
