Bruins sweep Creek
WELLSBURG — The Brooke softball team swept Indian Creek in a doubleheader at home on Friday.
The teams played a twinbill to make up for a game earlier in the week being rained out.
Brooke, which evened its record at 5-5, won the opener 12-2 then out-slugged the Redskins 14-9 in the second game.
In the first game, Emma Teller had a triple, single and two RBIs, Avery Rado doubled and drove in three runs, Emma Bober had two hits and an RBI and Marionna Dipaolo had two RBIs.
Rado threw a five inning complete game, striking out four.
Peyton Rath had a double and two RBIs for Creek and Riley Sadler also doubled.
In the second game, Rado had a monster game, crushing a homer and a triple while finishing 3 for 5 and driving in six runs. E McKinney followed with a 4 for 5 performance, including a triple, and had five RBIs.
Creek (3-8) got a triple and a double with two RBIs from Kylie Dray, while Sadler had another double and plated a run and Olivia Hollenbeck also doubled.
Brooke travels to Beaver Local on Monday, while Creek was slated to take on Edison on Saturday before a home-and-home with East Liverpool Monday and Tuesday.
Carney tosses a no-no as Bears blank Linsly
NEW MANCHESTER — Mattie Carney delivered a gem in the circle for Oak Glen on Friday and the Golden Bears bounced back with a big win over visiting Linsly, 8-0.
Oak Glen, now 6-4 on the season, got nine strikeouts and just one walk in six innings from Carney, who also helped her own cause with two RBIs at the plate.
Brayley Lash hit a homer and singled in driving in a pair of runs on the day, while Danica Holden doubled and drove in two runs and Kylie Robinson had a double and a single.
The Bears have a rematch with Edison on Monday at home.
BASEBALL
Panthers split with Potters
CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local baseball team bounced back in the second game a twin bill against East Liverpool on Friday to earn a split.
The victories were the first of the season for both teams as both move to 1-3.
East Liverpool edged out a 7-6 win in the opener, breaking a tie in the top of the seventh.
For the Panthers, Daniel Divjak had a double and two RBIs in the loss.
In the second game, the Panthers bounced back in a big way, winning 15-0 in five innings..
Divjak again had a big game, finishing with two hits and two RBIs, while also firing a complete game on the mound with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Mason Meeks had a double, single and an RBI and Jordan Kovalski doubled in a run for the Panthers.
Buckeye Local has a home-and-home with rival Harrison Central on Monday and Wednesday.
