Oak Glen gets big win at Wheeling Central

ELM GROVE — The Oak Glen softball team made it impressive wins on back-to-back days.

About 24 hours after a run rule win over OVAC Class 4A leading Edison at home, the Golden Bears went on the road and earned another huge, run rule win over Wheeling Central on Tuesday, 11-0.

The victory gives the Bears (8-4) a season sweep of the Maroon Knights, the team they faced in last year’s sectional final.

Oak Glen started fast with seven runs in the top of the first and added four more in the third.

Kynslee Landess blasted her first high school homer in the win, a two-run shot, and also had a single for a two-hit, two-RBI day.

Kylie Robinson had a double and drove in two runs, Danica Holden doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Mattie Carney had two hits and two RBIs. Macy Hartung also had two hits.

Carney struck out nine and did not walk a batter in firing a five inning complete game, two-hit blanking.

The Bears travel to Lincoln County on Friday.

Toronto falls to St. C

TORONTO — The Toronto softball team dropped a 15-5 decision to visiting St. Clairville on Tuesday.

The Red Knights, now 5-4, had two hits from Jaylee Brown, a triple and single from Gracie Ruberto and a single and two RBIs from Anna Wright.

Toronto is at Wheeling Central today.

Madonna improves to 10-0

STEUBENVILLE — By earning the season sweep of Catholic Central on Tuesday, the Madonna softball team has started the season 10-0 for the second time in as many seasons.

Big Red blanks the Red Devils

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Big Red baseball team went on the road Tuesday and made it wins on back-to-back days, blanking St. Clairsville 7-0.

Steubenville, now 5-2 on the season, plated four runs in the top of the second and did not look back.

Royal Mayo had two hits and two RBIs on the day, while Rocco Nocera doubled, AJ Borsch had an RBI triple, Karson Simmons had two hits and Cole Bowers, Mason Chmierlorski, Chase Beall and Nolan Blackburn each plated a run.

On the mound, Matt Fabbro fired a complete game effort striking out 10 and walking two in the two-hit shutout.

Big Red takes on Dover on Friday at the Crimson Complex.

Edison bounces back

RICHMOND — A day after suffering its first loss, the Edison baseball team bounced back with a 9-3 win at home over visiting Brooke on Tuesday.

For Edison (4-1) Xavier Haught had a double, single and three RBIs in the win, while Kayden Russell and Chase Freeman drove in two runs each.

Brady Haught fired the first five innings for the win on the mound, striking out six and walking four.

For Brooke (3-7-1) Gino Provenzano and Andrew Murdock each had two hits and Murdock had five strikeouts in the first four innings in taking the loss.

Edison hosts Claymont on Friday, while Brooke hosts Beaver Local today.

Madonna edges Beaver

WEIRTON — The Madonna baseball team got a walk-off win over Beaver Local on Tuesday, 4-3, on Luke Wingett’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

The Blue Dons (4-3) also got two hits and an RBI each from Reno Fuscardo and Sam Brooks.

On the mound, Jacob Lazear struck out eight and walked two in a complete game effort.

Madonna travels to Leetonia on Friday.

Creek tops East Liverpool

WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek softball team bounced back with a 12-7 win over visiting East Liverpool on Monday.

Riley Sadler had grand slam homer and Aliyah Duke, Olivia Hollenbeck, Payton Rath and Tori Gross each had an RBI.

The teams rematch today in East Liverpool.
